Whaaaa.....?

But how will we replace him in the lin...

I mean, now who will Randy put in to...

And won't the fourth line lose a whole lot of...

Man, that really sucks. I really hate how guys get busted like this. Reminds me of how Backstrom had to miss the gold medal game. Assuming he's telling the truth of course, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

reporterchris: Carter Ashton claims that he accidentally ingested a banned substance while using an inhaler to treat asthma.

reporterchris: Carter Ashton says he will not appeal his 20-game suspension from the NHL and apologizes to #leafs organization.

As minor of a role he played on the team, he did look like the best guy on the 4th line when in the line-up. Hopefully Frattin steps up his game.

It always seems like it's such a non-issue for what hockey players get suspended. If doesn't sound like he even used it during the season - and certainly not before any of the games he got into. I understand that the league has a zero tolerance policy here, but, it just feels like this isn't worth suspending a guy over. Oh well. As much as I like Ashton, considering the role he's being used in, he's easily replaced.

Agreed. I understand the zero-tolerance, but in comparison to other offenses and with considering it's a first time offense and a seemingly minor one, this seems excessive.

So the question now is does Ashton still count against the cap? Players suspended for on-ice incidents still have their cap hits count. That could really cause the Leafs some problems if it does.

@draglikepull posted this to Twitter commenting that they didn't think it would count against the cap: http://www.broadstreethockey.com/2011/9/27/2453124/jody-shelley-suspension-salary-cap

Something like this needs to be investigated more. I understand these are the rules but if it was prescribed by a DR. for a health need I have a problem with that. This is not used to enhance his performance. It is used to help him work. Thought? Other then suing his DR. for prescribing him it.

He's not being suspended for one he has a prescription for, but, rather, for one he borrowed from someone else.

After reading the article on tsn, that other player who gave him the inhaler is a ass. I hope he is paying Ashton for the next month

Sounds like the inhaler he is using now is prescribed by the team docs. The one that triggered the violation was not.

It's on Ashton to not take drugs that aren't his. It's not on the other player to make sure he doesn't take any banned substances - and, if he's not a professional, it's not even on him to know that he's using one.
