'Performance Enhancing' ... just where on the Leafs is this happening?

Whose inhaler was he using and cheating with? I'm assuming that steroid user didn't make the team? I hope the league is all over the Leafs and testing them all daily for the remainder of the season.

Hourly. Can't let anything slip.

Yes. Vigilance x 1000 thousand billion

How does asthma medication have a banned substance? Is prednisone also banned?

I would guess that whoever gave it to him when he had his first attack probably got it from a company in asia. Plenty of knock off stuff comes from there from clothes to medication.

Just because NA and some UK countries have banned it doesn't mean it still isn't being used elsewhere.
Lots of people from canada and the states goto mexico, asia and the UK for prescriptions and other things that are over priced here.

In this day and age for professional athletes, its unfathomable to me how someone could be so stupid as to "borrow" someone's medication - knowing that PED testing is part of the job. Especially when he could have had a Leaf dr. help him out within ten minutes of asking.

That said, I don't believe (and this is extremely rare) that he took it for a performance advantage.

It was given to him when he was having an attack, most people are not going to stop and think at a time like that weather it has something that could be illegal when they are in distress.  I  think he was maybe hoping it was a one off and nothing to be concerned about. Bad choice yes but i think it was simply that. If he was going to take a PED one would think that he would use something else that would have a better effect on him as a whole.
You use ventolin. That's it. Everyone uses it. Why was he given something different?

Different people use different types of inhalers yes?

I would be curious to know who exactly gave him the inhaler. Was it someone associated with the leafs or was it just some random other person he knew or just happened to be there when he had his first attack.

It says right in his statement that he took it in August while training.  He spends his summers in Saskatoon so I doubt he would be training with a fellow Leaf at that time in Saskatoon.

Hey, Bender, this summer my Doc recommend this stuff callled N-A-C, you can buy it in any health food store or in epervesant tablets.  It stimulates the liver to produce a by product that is extremely beneficial for your lungs (helping us sorts with bronchial problems)
The other thing is it is extremley good for your liver and have to admit it helps with Hangovers (now I have your attention).

You never know. Players train all over. It might not be a leafs player but maybe a habs or sens player that put an evil plan in motion ;)

Absolutely Philthy - if it was a Hab or Senator player who was busted for cheating / taking steroids the Toronto media would be devoting half of SC / SNC / HC@12 to this story but alas it's a Leaf so the bosses have instructed everyone on how to sweep a PR bunker bomb under the rug.

Don't be silly, no one in Toronto would spend half an hour talking about the sens for any reason.

This is correct.

Of all of the stupid things MF trolls about the dumbest, by far, is the idea that anyone in this city really gives a damn about any team other than the Leafs.

We'll know the storm has passed when the obligatory stories about how many billions the Leafs are worth are headlining SN & TSN...until then hide your "inhalers"!

1. That type of inhaler is ultra strict. I don't even think it exists in Canada, and from a former asthma sufferer who's tried everything under the Sun in terms of puffers, I would know about it.

2. It was not prescribed to him and used it beyond the one off. If he's stupid enough to do that he really has no business being a hockey player. I'm sorry but if you're a professional athlete you are insane taking unprescribed drugs of any kind. Everything should be run through a doctor first. Especially something as possibly life threatening as asthma for crying out loud!

I can't even begin to imagine how annoyed I would be if the Toronto media spent half their time talking about a border line NHL player in Ottawa getting suspended for drug use. I've be flipping the channel to the Golden Girls 45 seconds in.
