I've watched this like 50 times already, what a beauty.

Interesting stat...

Updated Career 5v5 Save Percentages after tonight's game...
Jonathan Bernier - 92.499%
James Reimer - 92.551%

Those declaring Bernie the messiah (mostly media types) may have jumped the gun.

3 Obvious Observations

1. Everyone, EVERYONE, wanted to watch Iginla and Phaneuf scrap. Screw you linesmen!

2. Toronto's top line is the best in the league!

3. Finally a game worth watching this season. Good time to be a Leaf fan!

4. We rule man...

Missed the game, but good to see the Leafs kick the deflated and tired Avs while they were down.

Reimer isn't going down lightly.  :)

So then does Reimer start the first of the home-and-home against Detroit on the weekend?

You would like he would get the start.

I thought the game was a good one.

I don't get why the 4th line was only on for about 4 mins
The third line was awesome.
And the first line is now rolling

I'm not sure we should read too much into who starts the first one. Since Bernier hasn't started in a little bit Carlyle might want him to go first to get in earlier. There's another set of back-to-backs on Tues/Wed so they'll split that as well. Then the question becomes who starts against Boston, but that will be decided over the next 4 games.

Kessel's goal (and his whole game last night) reminded me of this quote from that profile Sportsnet did of him:  ?Well, if they score, I?ll just go get another.?

Have you watched them in the defensive zone? They can barely touch the puck. Their scoring prowess is great, no doubt, but the majority of high quality chances against and long periods of opposing cycles comes when that line is on the ice.

I think they need a big, strong, skilled centre who can hold onto the puck and carry the puck out of the defensive zone. These points Bozak keeps piling up are great and all, but he is almost useless in the defensive zone (to say nothing of his horrible passes).

You shouldn't read too much into these stats with just 4 games of data collected, but right now Kessel has the highest CA per 60 minutes among forwards in the league. Bozak is 7th, JVR 12th.

Are we watching the same game dude.

the first goal was a wonder quick pass for Bozak ,and winning goals was a breakway pass from Bozak.

CA?

Assuming it means Corsi Against, so shot attempts against.

Fell asleep so missed the 3rd and OT, just caught up with the Game in 6. That defensive play and then breakout pass from Percy for Kessel's deke and shot was something else.

so. Kessel = bad?

His lines Corsi Against is bad. Even in the games where they've put up points they've still been in their own zone the majority of the game. Nothing new though. They're great offensively but a trainwreck defensively. It's largely why some people want that line split up.

I don't think it's a question of good or bad but rather a reflection on the kind of player he is. As good as he is offensively I don't think he's ever going to be like Jagr or Thornton where it's really hard to get the puck off of him. He lives on quickness both in terms of firing off quick shots and just the foot speed that makes him so good in transition.

It's a problem in that you don't want the puck in the Leafs' end but honestly it's hard for me to imagine a line with Kessel featured prominently on it where they're generating a ton of chances off of the cycle.
