Babcock will be back next season

Dubas' statement:

"We're all in on Mike and Mike is all in on us. We've had productive management meetings as an organization and Mike and I have had some really good meetings as well since the season ended. It's our very strong belief Mike is the one to lead us, that's the reality of it. There are things we need to improve upon. There are things we need to do to adapt and evolve and continue to get better. As an organization, we believe we can do that together."

Wasn't expecting anything different, really. This doesn't preclude a midseason coaching change if Babcock isn't "adapting and evolving" like the rest of the organization.

Galaxy brain, Dubas playing PR games because he knows Holland has approached Babcock to coach the Oil. Now Babs is the bad guy if he jumps ship.

Interesting take .

No shock here. Like most said next year is the one that counts for him. He doesn't do what Dubas envisions, he'll be gone.
I wonder if Keefe will be an assistant next season.

I am shocked. We have a coach who won?t give his best players enough ice time. A coach who chooses to not play his first PP unit enough. A coach of a consistently bad PP and PK. A coach who has the globe trotters to work with and still can?t figure out the PP. I think Bab?s is complete crap and unable to adapt. I don?t believe the players are behind him. Matthews was definitely frustrated with his ice time. I hope Dubas is capable of some dirty work because we haven?t seen any yet. I sincerely hope he has let Bab?s know he is on a short leash. We cannot afford to continue to have coach who contributes to the team loosing.

You think Dubas hasn't talked to Babs about all that? I don't think it was lip service with the we need to adapt and improve. Babs will have a short leash and if it goes off the rails, Babs will be gone no doubt in my mind.

Why wait? We have Dubas? guy crushing it with the Marlies. Bab?s has proven himself inept. If we loose another series because of useless special teams and our best on our bench under the same coach that?s on Dubas now.

Very good article. Overall Babs has done a great job with these kids. We'll see if he can adjust to take it to the next level.

Not knocking him because he may end up being a great coach but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. He isn't a good NHL coach yet and may never be. Remember Dallas Eakins? The Marlies have been built to win since Keefe's arrival in the 15/16 season and to his credit he has done a very good job with them. I would suspect that if Dubas thought Keefe could do a better job then Babs, he would have made the move. If he thinks Keefe is better and didn't make the move, if approved by MLSE to can him, then he should be fired immediately. Dubas is a smart guy and like I said earlier, I think the leash will be a short one for Babs.

He?s going to need to show a willingness to compromise in some of these areas or it could be his undoing. Babcock, as much as he certainly can be stubborn, probably doesn?t get enough credit here for his adaptability, though ? he healthy scratched Matt Martin down the stretch and in to the playoffs last season and sat Leo Komarov when it became apparent he was struggling (partially due to injury) in favour of Andreas Johnsson. Seeing is believing, but I?m guessing that Babcock made some verbal commitments to certain changes in the last couple of weeks in the board-room meetings with Dubas.

Those are nice examples.  From last year.

I think this article is pretty commendable and I think Babcock should absolutely get next season, so I agree with this writer's takehome message.  But he does sound too much like an apologist.  There is no excuse for how Babcock managed the PP/PK, especially in Game 6.  That needs to be emphasized, not swept under the rug.

Losing playoff games to come to the conclusion Komarov should have been scratched should not be commended. Komarov should have never been dressed to begin with. Everyone on the planet knew that except the coach! Mistake repeated this year with Marleau's ice time.

Michael Dal Colle is in virtually the same position Johnsson was in last season and greatestcoachintheworld Barry Trotz didn't scratch Komarov for him in the playoffs even though Komarov did absolutely nothing and the team desperately needed goals.
