Bell or Rogers

Also, if you do go for Rogers, make sure you contact your local Rogers guy rather than the head office. They always have deals they can offer you - like 6 months of everything for free if you get cable, internet and home phone.

What do you mean by local Rogers?

Every area has a local representative. Sometimes, they'll work in one of the local stores, sometimes they just have an office somewhere, but, you don't get them by calling the Rogers 800 number.

EDIT: If there are any apartment complexes nearby, they usually have business cards/flyers for the local guys in their rental offices.

If you're with Rogers, instead of getting X number of months free, ask instead to get a percentage discount for a year, which they tell me is the longest they can offer.  Then when it expires you call them and tell them to reinstate the discount.  I don't know if it's what everyone is getting anyways, but i have this on my cable where I get a 20% discount off the contract price and then i still have my bundle discounts on top.

Teksavvy+Netflix+Unblock US.

Forget Rogers and Bell. I haven't had any cable/satellite for almost 3 years now and I don't miss it at all.

Is Unblock US the way to get American Netflix? If so, is it worth it?

How does Techsavy compare to mainstream Rogers or bell internet?

The service is the same since they are using bell and Rogers infrastructure. But it's cheaper, customer service is great and I have a 300gb cap. And for the record, I use hd Netflix daily, and I use up about 60-70 gb per month.

Hmmm not bad. Will have to look into it then. Also as an aside question, can you stream Netflix or does the movie have to be fully downloaded to view?

They are both a necessary evil unfortunately.

We have Rogers for cable and internet and land line is Bell.  I haven't switched the phone to Rogers yet only because I've heard alot of people complain about dropped calls and service on it.

Rogers' cable is better (cheaper) if you have multiple tv's as well.

I'm with ya.  We have used Rogers for cable/internet for the last 20 years.  Never have had a problem.  We do call them a couple times a year and mention going to Bell, and Rogers quickly offers up a better rate :)

We use Bell for a plain plan with only voicemail.  No other options.  It's about $20/month.

We have a family plan on Bell Mobility.  Sherry and I, and Jake and Sarah all have Fab10 options, meaning we can make or receive calls anywhere in Canada with those 10 numbers.  Between us, we've got all relatives and long distance friends on one of the 4 of us.  If we want to call Granny, we know to use Sherry's cell as it's one of her Fab 10s, etc etc.

Yes it is. Netflix US is far superior to the Canadian version.

But Unblock US specifically, you'd recommend it as a program/service/whatever?

Yes... I've only used it for netflix access, but I understand it works with other US blocked services as well.

It's only $5 a month - and you can try it for a week at no charge, you've got nothing to lose.

Also their customer service has been top notch, and setup is very simple.

Does using their DNS slow things down?

Nope - I haven't noticed any difference at all... Like I've said, it's free for 7 days, and all you have to give them for the free trial is an email address. Try it out.

OK.  I just signed up for the trial at Unblock US, went Hulu.com and worked perfectly!

I just used my Canadian Netflix account and signed in, automatically logged me into the US Netflix.  Works perfectly!  I've only tried on my computer so far.

THIS IS AWESOME!

Thanks JOE S.  I owe you a beer.

Now, this thread has derailed some, so........

I use Distributel for my cable internet which has no caps on it.
I use Shaw Direct sat for my TV.
I use voip.ms for my telephone. $4.95 a month for a fully loaded line.

I don't think this thread is derailed.  I think it's great for all you to show us you don't need Bell or Rogers if you want to avoid them.

:)
