Blacker to Ducks for depth.

AnaheimDucks: The #NHLDucks have acquired defenseman Jesse Blacker and two 2014 draft picks from Toronto in exchange for Peter Holland and Brad Staubitz.

Another goon? My god. Holland should at least be useful right now. Those picks better not be anything more than 4th rounders though...

Holland was 1st round pick in 2009. 9 points in 10 AHL games this season. 39 in 45 last season and 60 in 71 the season before that. So pretty decent career AHL numbers it just doesn't seem like he's been able to crack Anaheim's roster. He'll certainly have an opportunity to impress here.

Staubitz though, man. Come on guys.

Who and who?

Holland was a 1st round pick in 2009 that hasn't managed to break through yet. Staubitz is filler and is likely destined for the Marlies (at least, I would hope).

Holland's 22, a former first round pick and has a few productive AHL seasons under his belt so....eh.

Picks are 3rd and 7th rounders this year.

mirtle: The picks the Leafs give up are a conditional third rounder (can become a second) and a seventh rounder.

7th rounder is no big deal - they get moved back and forth all the time. The 3rd isn't huge either, as long as it doesn't become a 2nd - depending on the conditions and how well Holland actually does.

Apparently, the condition on the pick is that it becomes a 2nd rounder if Holland plays 25 or more games with the Leafs this season.

Bodie will be down there soon. Devane. Biggs. MacWilliam.

Biggs isn't really a face puncher, neither is MacWilliam. They can both actually provide in other areas.

Well, I guess this goes back to the debate we're having on the Leafs, but do you really need a designated face puncher when you have so many players on the roster more than capable of fighting?

I mean whatever, as long as he doesn't play a single NHL game I won't make a fuss about it. Blacker and a 3rd for Holland is just fine by me.

@TSNBobMcKenzie

I would imagine Holland, a highly-skilled centre, will get a good chance to show what he has for injury-riddled TOR.

@coreypronman

Holland is waiver eligible next year, and while a good prospect, was getting caught in C log jam. William Karlsson coming soon too.

@coreypronman

Peter Holland was my #9 ANA prospect in the summer. Write up here: http://www.puckprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=1583

9. Peter Holland, Center
2011-12 Ranking: 7th
Date of birth: 01/14/1991
Age: 22
Height: 6'2''
Weight: 190
Shoots: Left
Statistics: 45 GP, 19 G, 39 P (Norfolk, AHL) / 21 GP, 3 G, 5 P (Anaheim, NHL)
Acquired: First round, 15th overall in 2009 by Anaheim

Year in Review: Holland had another good AHL season, as he was a very quality scoring forward. He was below average in his 21 NHL games.

The Good: Holland is a gifted offensive player. He is very skilled with the puck, with the quick movements, hand-eye coordination, and offensive knowledge to make a lot of individual plays. Holland has good vision as well. With his ability to create space, thanks to his speed and hands, he can put himself in good positions to set others up. He has gotten stronger, and he has shown more value in his physical game.

The Bad: Holland has really improved his all-around game, but his defense and game-to-game effort can still be issues.

Projection: He could be a second line forward.

Think he gets thrown right at top tonight? Carlyle clearly doesn't want JVR at centre anymore.

Was just wondering that myself.  I think it's a good possibility.  If he's skilled might as well put him with the skilled guys on the team and not have *shudders* Jay McClement centre the top line.

I would honestly cry.

Welcome to the team, kid. No time to practice. You get 20 minutes on the 1st line tonight. Go.
