Uh oh. Holland can't score on a breakaway and the Hawks come back and score.

I certainly can't remember a game where a Leafs player missed a breakaway with a multi-goal lead against an Original 6 rival and it came back to haunt them.

Enjoyable game.  I thought we set the tone early by finishing checks and continued with waves of offensive zone attack.  Pushed them off the puck a lot which was great to see.  And most of all, we did not give them any respect.

The lack of a 3rd period meltdown, too.  They looked pretty calm and supported each other, stayed out of the penalty box, and controlled the 3rd.

Great game by the Leafs, they never let up and allowed Chicago to get back into this one. Every time the Hawks got a little momentum the Leafs would respond to snuff it out. Quite surprised by the result, but well deserved and needed. Sure Chicago was without Crawford, but honestly not sure it would have mattered much as he's been quite ordinary this year.

Big night for D'Amigo. Good for him.

From the day they drafted him 6th round 4 years ago, always had a good attitude and was a guy who seemed like he had it in him to make it.

Great game for Holland too. Hopefully these guys can keep this up and when the injured guys get back the team can FINALLY ice a 4 line team.

Great game.  Great win.  Confidence booster (by defeating the defendIng  Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks).

Somewhere Dave Bolland is smiling.  ( Can hardly wait for his return to the lineup, though).

Great win by the Leafs, le sigh...

I'm watching some after game interviews and there's Rosie, trying to shove some tripe down some throats, again.

Her column, that I won't link to, has this to say...

?Once you play better defensively, then you start to become more of a team that plays far better going the other way, versus a receiving game. That?s really what has happened with our hockey club, I would say specifically the last 15 games ? we?ve been receiving more that we?ve been attacking.? ( Carlyle )

They?ve been receiving up the wazoo.

Yet that?s not what accounted for this sturdy dismissal of the ?Hawks.

Six of Toronto?s seven goals came off the rush, only Lupul?s off the cycle.

Maybe ? I?m just saying ? maybe Carlyle should resign himself to what he?s got, stop trying to iron straight hair that so obviously wants to curl.

Maybe ? I?m just saying ? that oft-cited ?template? Carlyle is always going on about is what needs to be smashed.

...

For one night at least, they made it stop ? turning every Carlyle whiteboard instruction on its head. Wonder if he got the message.

Nobody ever said they can't score of the rush Rosie, what they're saying is that you can't bet on a one trick pony ( you should know something about that by now ), but sure, tripe away...

I'm not sure I understand what's upsetting you about that article. It reads to me as if she's saying the leafs should be playing to their strengths - which is to play with speed. Isn't that what many here have been pointing out for some time now?

Like I said on page one, I expected them to win this evening. I did not expect a blow out, which was really enjoyable to watch. With the same line up and no MALKIN, on Monday. I am expecting another game.

Pretty well without Malkin there, the Leafs should handle Pittsburgh effectively, unless Monsieur Crosby has some other tricks up his sleeve.

Speed for speed, stride for stride and goal for goal, should make for another entertaining matchup even on Penguins home ice.

Nice game. Its a shame that Lupuls new line will only be for one more game. I think them three work well together. also what if these three and Kuli's line do the same in pitt, will Carlyle keep them together or change his lineup, whit the suspension over. Hmmm , and how long will he run with the d he had last night.

The last game we played in Pits we lost in overtime. Cosby did not have any points. And Malkin threw the goalie in the net prior to scoring the tying goal.

That may be the first Rosie column I agree with completely.  She's absolutely right that they threw away Randy's typical game plan for an evening and actually played to their real strengths.

So you agree that this leafs team should not play for more puck possession and instead should only try to score off the rush? Is this not what we've been belly aching about for the past month? That the team needs to do more than score off the rush?

funny but the team that scores more goals than its opponents end up winning the game?how bizarre that is..so lets hope they continue to score off the rush or cycle or a goaltender clearing his crease a la Smith.

Is it likely that Carlyle is saying 'don't play with speed' or to their strengths when they can? What irritates me about that article and her questions in the scrum, aside from just Rosie, is that she's attempting a narrow focus on how the goals were scored versus how the team plays aside from that for 60 minutes. If anything they embraced what Carlyle's been preaching, not the other way around.
