Game Notes

CBJ
?Merzlikins (10-4-0, 2.72 GAA, .920 Sv%) will likely start for the Blue Jackets
?Columbus is just outside of a playoff spot at the moment, sitting 5th in their division and 3 points behind the Wild Card teams
?Jakub Voracek, who Columbus re-acquired this summer in exchange for Cam Atkinson, is enjoying beig a Blue Jacket again. He is tied for the team lead in points with 19 in 23 games (18 of them being assists)

TOR
?Campbell (13-4-2, 1.78 GAA, .942 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Toronto's line-up is a bit up in the air as they did not practice on Monday and we don't know the official status of a number of players
?Sandin and Spezza are almost certainly out after Sunday's game, Sandin with an injury and Spezza with an upcoming suspension
?Marner missed both games over the weekend after a collision with Muzzin at practice and while his injury was not considered serious it's not known yet if he'll be ready to return
?Mikheyev and Mrazek are also inching closer to returning from their stints on the LTIR, which while good news could also put the Leafs in a short-term cap crunch

Injuries

?Joonas Korpisalo - Illness - Injured Reserve
?Dean Kukan - Wrist - Injured Reserve
?Patrik Laine - Oblique - Injured Reserve
Code:

?Ilya Mikheyev - Thumb - Injured Reserve
?Petr Mrazek - Groin - Injured Reserve
?Mitch Marner - Undisclosed - Questionable
?Rasmus Sandin - Lower Body - Questionable

Patrik Laine is also back home in Finland using the opportunity afforded by his injury to join his family in mourning the sudden passing of his father last month.

Steeves SZN?? I wasn't sure they'd call him up so early into his pro career.

Also Semyonov decided to dip for the KHL at the worst possible time.

I like Steeves. He doesn't need waivers, so that might be why.
I thought Seney might get a look too, but Steeves has more top-6 upside which is where we are lacking.

ARE WE GOING TO SEE ECHL BROS RUBINS-HOLL ON THE THIRD PAIR?

Marner on IR will create some nice cap space.

Saw Steeves play on Sunday...he looks good. I hope he gets a shot with Matthews...I don't like Simmonds there all that much.

Only if he's expected to miss 10 games/24 days.

Right...well then I bet he's injured for 10/24.

Yeah if he's out another 2 weeks like Dreger speculated they could stretch that a little to make it happen. He'd be back right after the Christmas break in that case.

LTIR it is I guess.

So in this case, could they sign Josh Ho-Sang to a two-way deal and bring him up, and then send him back down when Marner comes off LTIR?

Two-way contracts are not waiver exempt. They only stipulate a different payscale based on which league the player is rostered on.

Ah yeah.  Forgot about the waiver thing.  That's a wrinkle.

A huge wrinkle..I think JHS will be up at some point but think it will be the playoffs.

Yeah, he seems like the type of player, if he can play the way the Leafs want him to play, who could replace some of the skill that they lose when Marner isn't in the lineup.

I saw him play Sunday...great effort, serious skill but still needs work in his own end. He's not far off. Steeves, IMO is a more complete player at this point.
