Blues @ Leafs - Mar. 25th, 7:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

The Grabbo and Clarkson moves had RC's fingerprints all over them.  Even if he singlehandedly convinced Nonis to go out and get Bernier (and he may have had some influence, considering how things have gone between Reimer and him) that wouldn't compensate.

But sure, I agree that it's unlikely that Nonis will get fired.

The talk of the Leafs going after Bernier dates back to when Burke was still GM, so, my guess is that was more of wanting to see some long-term work completed more than Carlyle's influence. Carlyle wanting some more help in net just kind of added that extra layer of motivation.

I don't like the Leaf's ownership, management, coaching, or much of the roster.  The only thing this team has going for it goes back to my mom's passion for the Leafs and Dave Keon.  And even he doesn't like the club.

Well there's always next season.

This may be the most frustrating season to me since raycroft's first season with the leafs.

It's times like right now that solidify why I'm more an NHL fan than a Leaf fan.

Of course I'll always cheer for the Leafs above all else, but if I were simply a diehard Leaf fan I don't think I could tune in for times like this.

Anyone want a pair of tickets for tonight?

willing to sell them at face value. $70 each.. section 307 row 15.

PM me.

Face value - you're a good man.  If I wasn't 700 kms away...

Only do that here for those of you who tolerate me.

I'm the beneficiary. Thanks again Corn Flake. That's awesome!

My son will get his first taste of Maple Leaf Hockey tonight, however porous the defense look :)

Awesome!

Great time. My son was amazed at the place and seeing all the players in person. Too bad about the outcome, but what can ya do?? Thanks again!

It is pretty frustrating. They've dropped like 7 positions in the standings in 6 games. Wow.

I still think they sneak in somehow, just by the skin of their teeth.

i like reading that....i don't really believe it..but i like reading it

Its pretty sickening to think that the morning of March 14th I'm listening to the talking heads on the way to work gush about how the Leafs took 2 of 3 from the California teams, Detroit and Washington games were very winnable, and how Bernier leaving last nights game wasn't too concerning, especially with how Reimer played in relief.

Fast forward to March 26th and we've now lost 6 straight games in regulation, have absolutely no control over whether we even make the playoffs or not and the goalie situation has been quite concerning (although not the entire reason the wheels have come off)!

Hey at least the one thing consistent throughout is that Clarkson can't find the back of the net!  ;)

In all honesty, the Leafs have been horrible defensively all season they have the offence and goalies to get the job done, but can't play defense at all, from both the forwards and defensemen. They don't deserve to be in the playoffs,  nor do I want them to squeak in to get spanked in round one.

Nonis has his work cut out for him this summer to make the defense more rounded out, pair each offensive dman with a stay at home defensemen. Doubt it will happen.

Bernier was easily one of the Leaf stars of the game.  Even thcough he may not have been at his acrobatic best, after coming off an injury (even if he is still not a hundred percent), shows his value to this team.

Man, with the effortless way that this team can score and the elite-level goaltending they are (mostly) getting out of Bernier, it is such a shame that they are wasting it under this stubborn fossil of a coach.

It's also interesting how soft this team is. Both Burke and Carlyle preach size, strength and toughness but neither the Wilson or the Carlyle team has eally embodied any of the latter two characteristics.

If they let Kulemin walk and can't bring back Komarov, this is going to be one creampuff of a squad.

Don't be so hard on our team. We cant have Deon breaking a nail can we. If they cant win a game in the position they are in right now, they don't deserve to make the playoffs. Its go or go home time now.

On bright early morning note, I had a feeling that after the 1st period the Blues would hit the 60 shots mark at the end of the game. Props to the Leafs for holding them at 49.

I had a few shots myself after the game.

So, who are the best prospects who might be available in the 10-14 range of the 1st round?

I know Potvin was pumping Jared McCann's tires. He kind of seems like a safe pick though. I'm tired of those. I'd look at whoever out there has the highest offensive ceiling. Screw intangibles and grit. I haven't done too much research on the draft this year because I didn't think we'd be in this position, but William Nylander, Ivan Barbashev, Nikolaj Ehlers and Kasperi Kapanen are names that seem to fit that bill.

edit: I realize now that you can sum up my draft day targets by "anybody who will make Don Cherry go crazy".

McCann is really great offensively.  Team has impacted his #'s.  Consider these comments from the coach & GM:

?He played against top competition most nights and did a lot of little things well,? the coach added. ?I know he had higher expectations offensively for himself, but he never cheated the game. He was committed to the defensive side of the puck.?

?But the fact we require our centres to come so deep in our zone and take on so much more defensive responsibility limits Jared's offensive production,? Dubas said. ?But it also better prepares him to be a professional.?

His offensive upside is actually why I want the Leafs to grab him - think he might fly under the radar a bit because of his point totals when from what I've witnessed he's got fantastic offensive abilities.  He's a great passer and has a great shot.  He's still rated pretty highly despite that.

But I'm also biased, so take that into consideration.
