Brodeur's basically been waiting for somebody to get injured and here were are. St. Louis lost Brian Elliot to injury for a few weeks and wanted some insurance for rookie Jake Allen. I's just a try-out at this point like when Kaberle was with the Rangers so he'll just practice with the team for about a week before the Blues make a decision.

Weeeeird.

So Brodeur has officially signed a 1-year contract with the Blues. Thought Hitchcock's comments on him were very interesting:

Hitchcock mercifully ends Brodeur as backup BS; simply not wired for it: "If he?s here, he?s going to play. He?s not going to back up"

Jake Allen is 8-2-1 this season with a 2.16 GAA and .918 SA%. Brodeur has the worst save percentage over the past 2 seasons among goalies who played more than 50 games.

He's taking a week off to basically decide if he wants to keep playing. Finished with a 3-3 record, 2.87 GAA, and .899 SV%. Did he really think he'd be able to steal a job away from Elliott or Allen once the Blues went to 3 goalies?

I really wonder what's motivating him at this point. Money? Getting to 700 wins? I'd say he was just ultra competitive but if that were the case I have to assume he'd have looked overseas for a chance to actually be playing.

I've read that he wants 700 wins pretty badly. Doesn't look like it will happen though.

I hope another team picks him up and he wins 699 games.

I hope he gets traded to like 4 different teams, basically every time a goalie goes down for a small period of time someone picks him up. And THEN he finishes with 699 wins.

Martin Brodeur is retiring fromm hockey. Should be name assistant GM of the St-Louis Blues. #tvasports

A little surprising he won't be joining Lou in New Jersey for that gig.

Well, he'll leave behind a fairly complicated legacy in terms of its greatness but he sure as hell was great in the third period in the gold medal game in 2002 so I'm a fan.

Brodeur's position with Blues will be for the rest of season. He felt part of that team after playing for them/working with coaches, players

Both Brodeur and Doug Armstrong discussed with Lou Lamoriello before decision was made. Brodeur will be back with Devils after that.

Sounds like Brodeur will have some kind of advisory role. Will travel with Blues, work with coaches/players.

Brodeur was already sitting in on coaching meetings, PP meetings, stuff like that before taking leave of absence. Will be doing similar now.

That Brodeur and Armstrong both discussed this Lamoriello first shows the relationship he still has with Lamoriello and Devils.

So not quite assistant GM, he'll basically be an assistant coach with no real responsibilities.
