Not that I care about the difference between a 6th and a 7th but... lmao

Hey...maybe we'll draft another Connor Brown. Who by the way, is someone who I've always wished we could have found a way to keep.

As much as we can blame Malholtra for the special teams Keefe is ultimately responsible for letting this go on for half the season and not stepping in.  Very little adjustment.

This series was a great example as the PP just continued to do the same thing with Rielly and Marner getting the only shot opportunities because they didn?t have a second shooting threat on the ice if a young and rattled Sandin wasn?t on the ice.

Hyman was the only one getting opportunities while Nylander and Spezza were getting chances....and yet no changes to the lines that were ineffective.

To me Hyman was downright bad in this series.  I?m sure he?s hurt but none of his forechecking was generating opportunities for his life mates  He just kept
Trying to do those wide turns with the puck until he turned it over or fired a low quality shot on net.  I know his scoring pace in the regular season but he has 13 points in 33 playoff games.  I think I?d be very leery paying him more than 3.5.
It's Bruce time!!

I think maybe we should be careful about saying a team can't win just because they haven't. I think the history of the NHL is fairly littered with guys who couldn't win until they did.

And likewise, as insignificant as it may seem now, I think we need to remember that the only reason this team is in a position to lose so painfully is because they have shown they can play well in important situations. Just not enough or with enough frequency. I do think those things improve with time.
I want to hear a more ascerbic take from you! [emoji23]

The best-case scenario template here is the Caps, I guess, but they had won some playoff series before breaking through.

Totally agree on Hyman. He was brutal and I think he killed the line. I really do. I would not pay him more then 3.5. If he wants more, goodbye. Im down on Marner but I actually think he was trying too hard to do it all.

Keefe and Dubas both get one more season. Dubas has at least been able to identify issues with the roster and address them aggressively, but, at some point, that?s no longer enough. Keefe should at least get an opportunity at an 82 game season before we write him off.

They both have a lot of work to do this summer, though.

The main thing I need to ask myself it whether to keep spending SO much time following the team.  I tried to watch every game, all game, and even though they brought a lot enjoyable moments it's an immense amount of time to only have it end like this year after year.

At least we can look forward to the draft to get some guys in the pipeline with:

Our 2nd, 5th and 6th picks in 2021
Our 1st, 2nd and 7th picks in 2022

My god I forgot this was a thing. How much is Amazon regretting that?

Also, no more trading high picks or other valuable assets for guys that aren?t going to be with the team for more than one playoff run.

Kill me [emoji58]

We really jumped the gun on this rebuild and a few horrific drafts. We're basically stuck unless we really rethink what the hell we're doing.

So try and remember the highs.  In 2001, the Leafs finished with 90 points and the Sens finished with 109 points.  The Leafs didn't make the playoffs till the second last game of the season.

The Leafs swept the Sens.

This is why I don't like when people start calling teams terrible and horrible.  The Leafs have been on the other side of that, and if you don't respect your opponent in the NHL, you will lose.
I was in Ottawa for that game for business. I projected a leaf logo on my laptop next day during a presentation.

Have we ever benefitted from a rental deal?

On the plus side, you have to like how being a Leafs fan has a certain consistency to it.
I was wondering when we were going to hear your witty quips!

I know people are upset right now, which is fine, we all need to feel our feelings as my mother likes to say and so some perspective may not be as welcome but I've had some tough personal news recently. Nothing too bad, fortunately, but enough so that I wish being upset about a hockey game is the most bummed out I've been this week. And really, considering all that's gone on around the world this last year, we should all consider ourselves lucky if it is one of the biggest bits of bad news in our lives.

Sports are great. They can be a distraction from the real bad stuff out there. And it's super frustrating when something you invest in as a distraction tends to kick up more bad feelings than good. But, and I speak as someone who for a good part of his life was on the wrong side of this divide, you can't take it too seriously and you have to be able to not be too invested in the part of fandom you can't control.

So, you know, I get it. But at some point all you can do is laugh and hope things are better next year.

Yeah, I just don't see how the depth on the team gets flushed out.

It?s more that playing 2 games was more than 25% of their playoff games

I think a lot of them were trying to do too much. There was a lot of individual play. Hyman was obvious, almost every time he got the puck he took it behind the net and then eventually just passed it back to the point or lost it. Granted, Matthews was usually not open but they spent too much time skating around the perimeter and not enough time getting pucks to the net. Marner definitely got lost in his own head, took way too much time to make decisions, plays closed off and died on his stick.

I saw this coming earlier in the series but it was still damn frustrating to watch it play out.

Once again, our opponent had the team better built for playoff success (or at least one round).
The style of play differs so much from regular season and our guys were worn out by game 6.  Dubas has to go.  The Foligno trade looks terrible right now.

Hope things get better.  It was noticeable that you weren't posting here.  Glad to have you back.
