Boston traded him to Colorado yesterday for a 6th round pick in 2016. He's an effective player, but that's a lot of money for a (very good) 3rd line player.

O'Reilly is definitely done in Colorado now.

edit: Full NTC in the 1st two years and partial NTC in the last three. I really can't wrap my head around that. I mean I guess it's unlikely they'd be looking to trade him in the next 2 seasons but even Kessel didn't get a full NTC.

Goes a way in in what I was saying about Bozak not being too badly overpriced.

Eh, I think you could make the case that Soderberg is the better player between the two, so this just shows that they're both overpaid.

Soderberg outproduces Bozak in 5v5 P/60 over the past 3 seasons, primarily playing with Loui Eriksson and Chris Kelly.  I don't know how he is defensively but I'd say he's probably the better player right now (although that's a very quick and easy determination).

Well, you'll note I said "not too badly".

Fair enough, I felt like your comment was partially saying Bozak > Soderberg (which it may or may not have) so that's where I wanted to chime in.

I don't think he's overpaid by much at all. $4M for a 2nd line centre is pretty normal, even one with major deficiencies in his game.

No, I haven't watched enough of Boston to have a strong opinion on that. But if the opinion of the market is that Soderberg is a good to very good 3rd line center and worth 4.75 then unless someone thinks that Bozak is, at best, a 4th line player then his deal fits into the general salary structure, which doesn't seem to be the opinion of some.

This just tells me Colorado is willing to be crazy and that we should try to squeeze them before they run out of cap room.

He hasn't had a terrible two years.  44 and 48 points and overall is healthy.  It's overpaid but I think he could potentially play on a 2nd line and not do terrible.

Not saying he's bad, but that's a Bollandy contract/term to me. It does make Bozak's contract a bit more palatable to bidders.
