Colton Orr two year extension?

As per Bob McKenzie on Twitter:
Colton Orr is on the verge of getting a new two-year deal with TOR, worth a little less than $1M per year.

I love how I broke Dallas Eakins leaving and Colton Orr staying..two biggies!

This is just a precursor to a Kessel extension.  The enforcer is signed, next up the soft hands.

You'z my hero.

This isn't a surprising signing. Orr is a big part of Carlyle's strategy, like it or not.  The fact he even appears to be taking a cut is good, and interesting.

That's a good point.  If anything he had an expanded role with Carlyle in terms of how much he actually played and yet he's signing for less (if Bobby Mak is accurate which I don't doubt)  Then again, I don't think there's a market for a Colton Orr at $1M or more around the league.

Yeah this is not surprising at all.

No way the Leafs were going to downgrade on intimidation.

Let's not be so quick to roll our eyes here.

The problem isn't having Orr on the team, the problem is how he's used. If he ends up on the 4th line where he belongs playing less than 10 minutes a night I can't complain. IMO we do need at least 1 enforcer after all.

How garbage players like are worth two years.......and supposedly at just under a million dollars a year.

I am with you on this one.  With the Leafs really flying at the playoffs it became painfully obvious how slow Orr is and how bad his hockey skills were BUT what bothered me the most was how he and McLaren were used this season with staged fights.

I sincerely don't care how tough the Leafs' fighters are compared to other teams goons.  I care how much tar they can beat out of 5'2" Gionta if he ever even just BUMPS Reimer again, or Brian Boyle if he tries to rough up Gardiner like he did with Erik Karlsson last year.  That's why I want a tough guy on the team.

The stupid staged fighting has got to go, at least from the Leafs.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Colton Orr's two-year contract extension with TOR is now official. Annual salary/cap hit of $925K.

At least he took a small pay cut!

Still find it funny that the Leafs signed a 4th line enforcer to a 4 year contract back in 2009.

I love it. The coolest name in Leafs history lives on.

And the many, many board members who are better coaches than Randy Carlyle raise their fists in anger.

I don't know. I'd rather have a 4th line that can play 10 minutes a night. I think you get more benefit from a energy line that can forecheck well and cycle the puck, thereby wearing down the opposition's defense, than you do from a guy that punches other tough guys.

Maybe Orr can stick to his 5 minutes, and someone useful can double shift with the (hopefully) more competent other fourth liners.
