Seeing him on 24/7 picking out a suit and going out of his luxury house with his luxury car with his hollywood wife - just made him look like a prima donna.

Oh no. A rich athlete living a lavish lifestyle because he can! Oh no!

Hmmm, you should've seen Sundin's mansion when he lived here. All athletes live super rich lives. Far beyond our imaginations. They seem like good ol home bread boys but they like celebrities they would't touch you with a ten foot pole. NBA and NFL are even worse.

Back in the day of the Muskoka 5 and Tie Domi. Large groups of them use to come to Teddy's in Oshawa. A local one off restaurant. Great food btw. They would come in and shake hands all down the line of waiting customers, talk to the groups of people around them where they sat and had a great rapport with the staff there.

I don't really think they're completely out of reach of us. Just they have nicer houses, cars, and toys than we do. Most of them aren't stacking the ladies at night clubs drinking 500 dollar bottles of champagne every weekend.

Of course, they do. Most of these guys are becoming millionaires in their early 20s - long before most of them understand how to be financially responsible. Combine that with a number of them coming from less financially stable backgrounds, and that tends to lead to them spending on luxury rather than stability.

Also, in the case of the Phaneufs, you have both members of the relationship being of the high-income variety. I mean, let's not forget that Elisha Cuthbert was a millionaire before she started dating Dion. They also don't have any kids yet, so, you have two younger people with a lot of money and no dependents . . . of course, they're going to live somewhere nice, own luxury cars, designer clothes, etc.

I wish that the Leafs and Roberts/Nieuwendyk didn't have that falling out episode and he was the strength and conditioning coach for this team.

It did seem sort of by design on the part of the 24/7 crew. There's a pretty obvious contrast they were setting up between Detroit/Toronto as teams and cities.

I suppose, although we got to see Daniel Alfredsson's fancy new house too.

Sure, but it doesn't take an advanced degree in popular media to see how the signifiers of class and authenticity are working here. It's a house empty of furniture but full of children, dad's wearing jeans and t-shirt. Alfie's more all-American than Dion. Do you think we'll ever see how Dion got the tree into his condo? Given everything else we see, I'm sure we're meant to fill in the elevator operators and doormen.

So far, the Leafs are being presented as a young, silly team, with a doddering coach, versus the very serious Detroit veterans who carry a declining city on their shoulders and are dedicated to their very serious coach, who spends his not-coaching hours circling the Joe Lewis arena.

Are you familiar with previous installments? Because I don't think they're quite as interested in shaping the conversation to the level you seem to think. They certainly brought up Detroit's struggles although, honestly, I think right now that it's impossible for someone to spend time there and not mention it. Did you see the episode of Tony Bourdain's Parts Unknown there? He compared it to Chernobyl in terms of abandonment and decay.

They have such a quick turnaround time for the show that I really don't think that they're thinking about it on the level you are. They only get to spend a day or two at most with an individual player and, if they're getting their Christmas tree that day or dressing up in a fancy bow tie, they have to construct their episode around the footage they have. They can't wait for weeks for Phaneuf to pull out the chain saw and build himself an outhouse in the interest of showing him as a rugged outdoorsy type.
