I had no illusions Horachek was going to save the team, but this last stretch sort of kicked any real desire to watch right out of me.

It's funny, because, in a lot of ways, it's had the opposite effect on me. I've really enjoyed watching them play a more controlled, even game. Even though they haven't had success in terms of results, I've really seen a fair amount of improvement on the ice. They're not getting dominated the way they used to, and that's encouraging. I know they're not going anywhere this season, but, seeing them get back to some actual structure has been more fun to watch than seeing them spending 2/3 of the game in the defensive end.

I get what your saying, but I get no enjoyment whatsoever from watching them play a trap style system. At least under Carlyle they were entertaining and winning games. Now it's like watching paint dry, except once the paint has dried, it all just flakes off.

I found it a lot more frustrating than entertaining. Sure, the goals were nice, but, watching them spend so much time in their own end every night was really enraging. As was how long it would often take them just to get a sniff at the opponent's net. It was entertaining for short bursts amidst long periods of crushing frustration.

Joffrey Lupul returns to the #leafs lineup tonight against Arizona.

Lupul's back, so we've got a full forward line-up. Is that the first time this season?

They had one game where the only injured forward was Kozun. So, they basically had the same group of forwards they'll have tonight.

And they're not trapping now either.

No, they're not. I think a lot of people just mean "defence focused" when they reference the trap, though. At least, that's how I choose to read it.

Yeah.

Their Scoring Chance For % (SCF%) this season under Carlyle was 43.2%

So far under Horachek it's been 50.4%.

Under Carlyle this season they were allowing 35.0 Scoring Chances Against per 60 minutes (SCA/60), last in the league.  They're allowing 26.5 SCA/60 under Horachek.

Under Carlyle, they were getting 26.7 Scoring Chances For per 60 minutes (SCF/60).  Under Horachek they're getting 26.9 SCF/60.

The pucks just not going in.  They're not "trapping" and they're getting the same number of scoring chances per game as before, they're just allowing a heck of a lot less against.

Entertaining? That was some of the worst hockey I have ever seen in my life. Spending almost entire periods stuck in the defensive end and unable to clear or control the puck. Getting outshot by 10+ shots in a period and unable to record a shot on net for minutes and minutes at a time. I felt like I was a Washington Generals fan for most of the games.

Their shooting percentage under Horachek has really been unsustainably low, as has their Sv%. What they've experienced of late was another sharp correction in terms of those numbers and their PDO. They're now hovering around 100 there for the season, so, things should start to go their way a little soon.

What I get from this thread:  you're all old and fall asleep easily.

I'm always surprised to hear that people record regular season games and watch them later. There's 82 of them a year guys you can miss a few and still be in the loop.

I've been PVR'ing/Recording games for years. The reason is simple...I'm a big fan and unfortunately I love this team.  However, I can't stand to watch a game for 2.5 - 3 hours - I just don't have the time or the patience.  I like that I can fast forward commercials and intermissions and just watch the game.

Unfortunately I live right next to the ACC, so sometimes I can hear the horn from the outdoor screen if I'm paying attention, but otherwise, its a pretty effective time saver.

They were certainly a hell of lot more entertaining than they are now. No matter how much of the game they played in their own end, at least they could outscore their opponents every once and a while. Now that can hardly score, period.

Yeah. I don't what it is that a team can be the 2nd highest scoring team in the league under one coach and then can't score to say their lives under the new guy. Better defensive numbers or not, that is some baffling s&$t.

It's not something that's a direct result of the coaching change. Their shooting percentage was something that many people pointed to being unsustainable, and we're seeing the result of that now. The correction has been sharp and drastic, but, even if Carlyle was still behind the bench, their offence was going to drop off. It may not have been quite as sudden, but, it would have happened.

Yeah their SH% in Carlyle's last 7 games was down about 2 points at 5v5 from the season up to that point and SV% was down around from .920 to .900 at 5v5 as well.  In all situations the SH% was down around 3 points and the SV% from about .915 to .900.  Basically they were trending downwards and with the amount of shots they were giving up (which was showing no signs of letting up) it wasn't  going to be pretty either.

I live across the road from the ACC too, which building are you in?

Same here.

jonasTSN1050: Projected Leaf lines: van Riemsdyk-Bozak-Kessel. Winnik-Kadri-Santorelli. Komarov-Holland-Clarkson. Booth-Smith-Lupul.

jonasTSN1050: Projected Leaf defence: Holzer-Franson. Rielly-Polak. Gardiner-Granberg. Goalie: Bernier.

Though, based on Horachek's time here, those lines aren't likely to last through the night. I imagine Lupul ends up on Kadri's wing fairly quickly, or, possibly Bozak's, depending on how the blender goes.
