Earlier today a TSN radio host out of Vancouver reported that Calgary's search for a new head coach was down to 3 names:

Matthew Sekeres ‏@mattsekeres  9 hours ago
Gulutzan apparently one of 3 finalists for #Flames job. Randy Carlyle is another. Decision expected in next day or two. #CanucksOn1040

Third #Flames coaching finalist is #Capitals asst Todd Reirden.

And then just now ESPN's John Buccigross wrote this:

I'm hearing candidates for the @AnaheimDucks head coaching job are being told Randy Carlyle will be the choice. Coached their 5+ years.

Are either of these people the most trustworthy source of hockey news? No. But please hockey gods, make one of these happen. Please.

Oh, the hilarity. If any of this is true, it'll be interesting to see if the season and a half away from being behind the bench has allowed Carlyle to adjust his strategy and philosophy. I have my doubts.

Carlyle to the Ducks would be a bummer. Carlyle to the Flames would be hilarity.

That would make three of their last four coaches Carlyle, Hartley and Keenan.

And I don't really remember if the other coach on that list, Brent Sutter, was a good coach or not, but the circumstances that led to his hiring there definitely deserve to be taken into consideration when we're looking at Calgary's poor coaching history in the last decade or so.

Expect the Anaheim Ducks to announce the return of Randy Carlyle as head coach tomorrow.

Boudreau replaces Carlyle, who replaces Boudreau. That's gold, Jerry! Gold!

Do we get a pick for this?

Unfortunately, no. They did away with the compensation thing just in time for the Leafs to have to pay for it twice, but not be rewarded by it ever.

Draft picks schmaft picks, Sisyphus got nothin' on the Leafs.

Ryan Whitney ‏@ryanwhitney6  8 hours ago
This should work out well. No one could stand the guy when he got fired in Anaheim before and now he'ssssssss back

Whitney played parts of 2 seasons during the middle of Randy's first go as Ducks head coach.

A couple of other reactions from former players, although I don't believe O'Sullivan and Bissonnette ever played for Randy:

Paul Bissonnette ‏@BizNasty2point0  10 hours ago
Pardon?

Patrick O'Sullivan ‏@realPOSULLIVAN  10 hours ago
Unbelievable. Wouldn't be surprised if we see some big names ask for a trade.

Hey Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf.  Remember that time when you had a coach you hated and the team fell apart and didn't want to play for him anymore?  Yeah, he's back.  Have fun with that.

I think we should stop trying to trade for Vatanen now.  Wait a year until his value tanks.

I have enjoyed this off-season immensely so far, firstly for the first overall pick, and secondly for the schadenfreude that we are no longer part of.

Randy Carlyle at his best:

?I have a theory on concussions,? he said. ?I think the reason there?s so much more of them ? obviously the impact and the size of the equipment and the size of the player ? but there?s another factor: everyone wears helmets, and under your skull when you have a helmet on, there?s a heat issue.
?Everyone sweats a lot more, the brain swells. The brain is closer to the skull. Think about it. Does it make sense? Common sense?? said Carlyle, who said he?d never talked to a doctor about his premise, which he was introduced to by Jim Pappin, the former Leaf who also played his career helmet free.

That rash of heat stroke we see on the ice is an epidemic.
