Doggy pics and tips!

Parker's awesome!  Very cute!

Yesterday was Pucks FIRST full day with no accidents.  So 2.5 weeks after we got him.  He's been getting better, with only maybe 1-2 accidents a day... yesterday was none and we were thrilled.  When we got him it was bad the first few days lol

I love the puppy stage sure but I can't wait til he's fully trained either.

Yay Puck!! Yay Parker!! Congrats on your accident-free days!!!!

My daughter just posted a picture on her Facebook of her Leeroy (3 mth old mutt, looks like Border collie/Rottie cross) who this morning tried to eat their Ikea coffee table. He's pretty good about the poo and pee in the house-- he learned from our dog when he was here that standing by the back door with a serious look on your face gets you outside to do your bizness right away. But apparently he does not appreciate not being played with at his beck and call and lets you know of his displeasure by consuming things that aren't meant for doggy tummies. Stuff like Nintendo cables, IKea coffee tables, one's favourite Nike running shoes.........

Sarrrge - you are so right!  I swear, sometimes certain ways that he sits or looks at you, he looks like a stuffed animal.  He was laying on a blanket in the family room yesterday evening playing with his stuffed duck (well, it was just sitting in his mouth) and I was looking for him and walked right past him.  LOL

Erndog - that's great!  We've had 2 days straight now with no accidents.  YAY!

hap_leaf - I love the Goldens as well but we decided to go with something smaller with the 4 yr old.  Parker is the right size and still a little hardy for him.  He's supposed to grow to 14lbs and at his vet visit 2 weeks ago at 3 mths, he was already just over 8lbs.  So, I think he will definitely hit that 14/15 lb stage, which is a nice size for us.  We've had 2 boxers before and they are just a little too big and rambunctious for our little guy.

LHF - my BIL's boxer Bella does the same thing.  We had her for a bit when she was a puppy and she ate those cloth skate guards, socks, you name it and that stuff HAS to come out!  LOL!  She's not so bad now at almost 3, she's learning.  Parker is really not that bad about chewing.  He likes to chew the legs on the kitchen table, which isn't a big deal because I want a new one soon anyway!  LOL and he loves his bones.

The puppy stage is definitely rough, especially when you have a very busy household but we are surviving.  He'll be 4 mths old on April 4th and we've only had him for 5 weeks now.  I think we've done pretty good and he seems to be getting the hang of things.  We are getting there and I think that once he's fully potty trained, he's gonna be a great little dog.

We are going to Puppy Orientation Friday night.  The trainer talked to us this past weekend about getting him used to a bell to go outside.  Seriously!  All of my other dogs just gave me that "look" like, I need to go know.  Not sure about the bell.  We'll see.

the bell.

I laugh.

Years ago (before I knew the family) my inlaws had a beagle/Shepherd cross. He learned by observing friends and family that banging on the funny looking circle on the door (the doorbell) gets you in the house from outside. So one day, my inlaws have friends over for cards, and suddenly they hear 'bingity bingity bingity bingity' the doorbell's going crazy. My MIL's friend looks at her and says "Ann, aren't you gonna get the door?" and without missing a beat, MIL makes her card play and replies "It's just Chipper, he wants in, one of the boys will get it"

My son has the exact same rug! :)

LOL...we had it too. Daycare kids loved it. My OWN kids didn't have much use for it but the little boys especially, loved it. ANd the 4000 cars that worked on it :)

So Puck's been pretty good.  Just had him chopped last week.  He's 6 and a half months old now.... still has a few accidents a week though.  It used to be daily but I'd say he's at about 2-3 a week now.

I've heard it takes about a year or so to have them fully house trained.  We never leave Puck alone for more than 5-10 min at a time.  Still too risky (either with having an accident or getting his nose dirty in something).  He's generally pretty good though, rarely chews on anything and hasn't destroyed a single thing! (touch wood).

And he still bites a bit but when you tell him not too he's pretty good at stopping.  I need him to learn to never open his mouth near someone, he doesnt know his own strength.  He's doing it playfully but I fear he may take a bite outta someone/something some day.

Here's something I made to capture game 7 vs. the Bruins

Very cute Erndog, love the pics as things went downhill.  LOL

Parker is almost 8 mths now and if we let him have a little too much free roaming of the house, he still has a pee accident. Mind you, it has only happened once in the last 2 mths, so that's pretty good. They really still are babies and I agree that at least a year before the accidents stop.
