Game Notes

ANA
?Gibson (17-17-8, 2.86 GAA, .916 Sv%) will likely start for the Ducks
?Anaheim is 2-11-4 in their last 17 games. That stretch includes a 12-game losing streak that ended a couple weeks ago
?Their most recent loss was likely their most embarrassing: losing 9-3 to Winnipeg. The Jets scored 6 goals on John Gibson in the 1st period before he was finally mercy-pulled
?Despite all of this the Ducks are still just 3 points out of a playoff spot in the West. Problem is you can say that about 4 other teams there too
?Some good-ish news for the Ducks is that Corey Perry made his season debut in their last game after a knee injury in preseason put him on the IR

TOR
?Andersen (22-11-2, 2.57 GAA, .922 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Auston Matthews will look to extend his goal-scoring streak to 4 games tonight
?Despite some doom and gloom that still exists, the Leafs continue to hold onto the 2nd spot in the Atlantic and remain 5th in the league in points percentage

Injuries

?Ondrej Kase - Shoulder - Injured Reserve
?Ryan Kesler - Lower Body - Injured Reserve
?Ryan Miller - Knee - Injured Reserve
Code:

?Tyler Ennis - Ankle - Injured Reserve

Korbinian Holzer is still in the NHL?!

He just got called up for Feb 2nd's shellacking.

Well, they just lost 9-3, so I guess Anaheim will be ornery tonight.  Leafs better not take it lightly.

If Randy Caryle is still coaching then you can be sure that Holzer still has a legitimate shot at playing in the NHL.

Reality is a bitter pill.

Love to be proved wrong, but we need only go back a couple of days for evidence to the contrary.

The Leafs have the 4th best goal differential in the 1st period.

Recency bias is a hell of a drug.

Weird fact that I found when looking into my last post: The Lightning have allowed the 2nd highest amount of 1st period goals against in the league, the 2nd least amount of 2nd period goals against in the league, and 9th least amount of 3rd period goals in the league.

What is it against nonplayoff teams since, say Dec 1 or so, I wonder.  Though I don't wonder enough to want to bother to do my own research, admittedly.  :o 8) 8) :P :-\ :-*

You're more than welcome to sift through a smaller sample size to find the conclusions you want to hear if you'd like.

You'd think that sort of thing would be all sorted out if Carlton is using half a season worth of data though, right?  I mean, the other teams are playing good and bad teams too, right?

Guys, I think you're forgetting a little something called the Scientific Method which goes like this:

1. Conclusion
2. No, you shut up
