ECF: (A3) Montreal vs. (M2) New York

There may be a certain. amount of psychology attributtable to a team that loses it's top goaltender.  But, because Tokarski played so well, this discounts the above statement.

There are many who do not beleive that even with Carey Price in net, that the Canadiens would have been triumphant over the Rangers.  The Canadiens lack of somewhat proper depth on defence was evident, particularly in Game 6.  Their defence displayed fatigue, in particular Andrei Markov on that Dominic Moore winner.

Also, for Game 6), the loss of Weise & Emelin further 'weakened' Montreal's defence and two-way agility (in which Dale Weise was instrumental in supplying).

Potvin is saying it's all reflected in the stats, which it's absolutely not.  That's what started this.

I'm saying you can't accurately judge how the team was affected from your position so you shouldn't act like you can and should stick to something you can judge accurately, such as statistics.

That's a good point and I agree, the fact that they couldn't overcome it does not reflect well.

Sure, except I think most people would think it's pretty understandable if a team couldn't overcome the loss of their best player. The issue here is, despite Tokarski playing at a comparable level, the Canadiens couldn't withstand the loss of Price purely on the basis of psychic injury or lack of fortitude. In that respect, losing Price almost does become incidental to their getting knocked out because if they weren't able to withstand that then the likelihood is the pressure and grind of the conference finals probably would have proven too much for them anyway.
