No Stralman for game 1, and he says that it's too early to say anything about game 2. Stamkos says that he hopes to play in this series.

Tampa would need them both (and close to 100%) to stand a chance here I think.

Callahan drills Letang from behind and he had to leave the game (now back on the bench).

Bishop twists his leg/knee/ankle trying to make a save and is down and cannot get off the ice.  Stretcher is out for him.

Tampa Bay  3  Pittsburgh  1.  Lightning lead series 1 game to 0.

Game summary:

Kessel and Drouin scoring key goals for their team in the Eastern Conference finals. Just as we all expected.

No, really, we should have all expected it.

Crosby 0 goals and 5 assists in his last 9 games.  Kessel 4G 6A in his last 9 games.

Well, Kessel does have a history of performing well in the playoffs, on the rare occasions his teams make it and he plays.

Pittsburgh  3  Tampa Bay  2  OT  Series tied of 1 game apiece.

An uptempto game as both teams skated and kept both goaltenders busy.
The Lightning's Andrei Vasilevskiy and the Penguins Matthew Murray kept their respective teams in the game.  With Pittsburgh having taken a 2-goal lead, and the Lightning eventually closing the gap, it was left up to Tampa Bay's backup stopper, (starting for the injured Ben Bishop), to come up with some  brilliant saves.

It sure helped Tampa Bay to have had defenceman Anton Stralman back from injury.  However, there wasn't much any of them could do to stop Sidney Crosby from scoring the OT winner for Pittsburgh.  Crosby, from a drop pass by winger Bryan Rust, one-timed a wrist shot that sailed over Vasilevskiy's blocker.  All in forty seconds of the start of the overtime period.

Game 3 is Wednesday in Tampa Bay.

Right now his only competitor is Matt Murray. So we need Murray to put up one stinker that gets him pulled for Fleury who will lead the Penguins to the Cup while Phil keeps scoring. That way 1) Phil wins the Conn Smyth, 2) the Pens will feel they can't get rid of Fleury because he's more "clutch" or something, and 3) we can then trade for Matt Murray.

Fleury starts tonight. The process begins!

Fleury loses 4-3 in OT.  Tampa is up 3-2.  They are the better team even without Stamkos.

You gotta feel for Stamkos a bit. He missed out on a gold in Sochi, his team was too good for him to be part of 2 gold medals for the IIHF, but he wasn't much part of these last two deep playoff runs either.

Fleury didn't play too badly in the early going, but since it was his first game in between the pipes in  awhile, one can't help to shake off the 'rust' of not having played.

Looks like it's back to Murray for the must-win Game 6 in Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

That's a link for the 2nd round against the Caps.

Yeah, you're right.  My mistake.

Guess we won't know who starts 'till  game day.

Murray gets the start for Game 6.

Pittsburgh  5  Tampa Bay  2.  Series tied 3 games to 3.

Before Game 6,  Pittsburgh forward Evgeny Malkin let it be known that the Penguins were going back home for a Game 7.  Malkin was adamant in his conviction, and the Penguins proved him correct as Pittsburgh staved off elimination in forcing a Game 7.

The Penguins were dominant from the get-go building up a 3-0 lead by the second period.  Though the Lightning tried a comeback, Pittsburgh stood it's ground and scored to put the game out of reach.  Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby led the way with a solid game.  Matthew Murray, who started instead of Marc-Andre Fleury (the losing goaltender in Game 6), backstopped the win.

Game 7 goes Thursday in Pittsburgh.
