Thanks for your tribute TBLeafer.  Puts it all into perspective. By the way saw Hacksaw Ridge last weekend.  Unbelievable true story, but very accurate.

No thanks needed.  It's on my list!

Babcock:

"Rielly and Zaitsev looks like they can be a real solid pair for us."

Translation:

"I'm gonna put Polak on the top pair for now and see what happens."

Honestly short of being a veteran I'm not sure why Polak is the guy constantly in the lineup. Corrado is now in a year or two of sitting in the press box that's a pretty shitty way to treat a young kid essentially destroying any shot at a viable career.  Put him on waivers so we can go to the AHL or get a chance with the team is actually going to play him.

Friedman was on the radio today was fully on board the #FreeCorrado train:

?Even if he clears waivers and goes to the American Hockey League ? just let the guy play. I mean, at his age and his point in his career, he?s in danger of going two years without really competing. And yes, you can learn a lot in practice and yes, you can learn a lot from being around guys who are elite level players and who have been in the league for a long time. But at the end of the day, you?ve got to play somewhere. I just think they should put him on waivers. If he gets claimed, great. If he doesn?t get claimed, go to the American Hockey League and play.

?This is ? it?s reached the point where it?s absurd and really hurting the guy?s career.?

If he does get claimed, no guarantees that the team that claims him will play him either.  This is the NHL.  Corrado isn't asking for a trade or to be waived himself.  As Babcock said, his opportunity will come and he'll need to make the most of it when it does.  Stay in game shape in the meantime.  Be ready.

Seems Babcock considering D shake-up:

Rielly-Polak
Marincin-Zaitsev
Gardiner-Carrick
Hunwick-Corrado

Alrighty.

Mike, nooooo.

I don't think Polak is terrible or anything but I think he's utterly incapable of making plays with the puck beyond a direct, clear pass or chipping it out.

While I've definitely liked Polak a lot more than Hunwick this season, I feel like a part of that is because he's played almost exclusively with Gardiner. Pairing him with Rielly or Marincin will likely provide poor results.

So, two teams with strong offences, but porous defences? I expect a 0-0 that's decided with an 18 round shootout.

There was a little blurb on Polak in the last Leafs' Notebook on MLHS (11/7). Take it for what it's worth, but I thought it was interesting:

? In light of Saturday?s events, it?s interesting that seemingly every time Matthews? line is on, so is Roman Polak. Hockey Analysis isn?t up to date at the moment so it can?t be quantified, but through the first seven games of the season, Matthews was the forward Polak played with the most, going on together for nearly half of all of Polak?s shifts.

? Polak, by the way, is second on the team in shorthanded ice time per game (3:27 on average, second to Marincin), and the Leafs PK is currently killing off 84.2% (ninth in the league). There are lots of calls for Frank Corrado to enter the lineup, rightly or wrongly, but Polak won?t be going anywhere based on that alone.

20 years ago today Ron Hextall fought Felix Potvin. Best goalie fight ever.
