It's kinda strange seeing Tlusty on the top line after he was written off here.

I can't remember what we traded him for ....

Philippe Paradis

Who, in turn was traded with Viktor Stalberg and Christopher DiDomenico, for Kris Versteeg.

Versteeg was traded for 1st and 3rd round picks that were used to select Stuart Percy and Josh Leivo.

That was quite the 2006 draft for JFJ and the Leafs!

In the context of how bad that draft was aside from the top 5 and a handful of other guys, the Leafs did amazing work.

Pretty much swept the latter half of the draft and took nearly all the decent players.

While none of them are stars (well, Reimer has an outside chance), turning 6 out of 7 draft picks into serviceable NHLers is a job very well done.

I guess we can classify the Tlusty/Paradis --> Paradis++/Versteeg deal as one of Burke's poorer ones on his Leaf resume.  That could change once we see what Percy and/or Leivo have to offer at the NHL level (if anything).

Leivo's OHL production has improved quite a bit since he got drafted after the 2010-11 season.

11/12 66 73 1.11

While Boston didn't have the same efficiency, they walked away with Kessel, Lucic and Marchard from that draft.  Geez.

To chime in on the main topic of this thread -- I can see the Leafs pulling this one out.  Outside of being top heavy with the Staals, Semin and Skinner, I look at Carolina's roster and think of one big 'meh', especially with Ward not starting.

How do I position watching this game as some sort of Valentines Day gift to my wife who never watches hockey?

Face it, you're effed.  :P Fortunately, I'm working so it's no problem for me.  :)

Crazy, huh?  6 of 7 picks became NHL players is pretty impresive.

Might want to thank Dave Morrisson rathe than JFJ. You know, just to give credit where it's actually due. ;)

You guys are so unlucky. My husband was fortunate enough to find a major hockey fan for a spouse. (In fact, I'm probably a bigger hockey fan than he is) Not only is it Valentine's Day it's also our wedding anniversary. And we made a nice dinner for ourselves. And we will celebrate by watching the Leaf game tonight. Go Leafs Go!

Anyway, it's all in how you sell it to her, CF. Got time to run out and buy a gift card for her favourite store? You could give it to her, and tell her she gets to go shopping and buy whatever she likes! Or, if it's more to her liking, give her a homemade certificate for peace and quiet/nice bubble bath and a book or something like that. (I'll have to forward this idea to my husband and substitute 'watching Wipeout' or whatever other stupid reality show he likes for 'hockey game')

The beauty of the West Coast, get to watch the game and then do a date night.

Shave and a shower during the second intermission and head out after the third.

Have a good night folks!

Go Leafs Go!

(I slowly turned Mrs Wigwal in a Leafs fanatic, she never misses a game either)

Right, but some of our best players - Frattin, Lupul, Reimer - are all out. They are pretty big losses imo. We don't have the depth to cover up all of them and we really have to keep up or we could fall quickly in the standings.
