Game 29: Jets @ Leafs, 7:00pm - CBC

I anxiously await the day the Leafs brass fires Randy Carlyle and appoints someone from this board as head coach, as clearly everyone here knows so, so very much more than a Stanley Cup-winning coach.

Seriously people, get a grip. You would all be terrible coaches. Terrible. As would I.

I bet if we had Perry, Getzlaf, Neidermayer and Pronger as well as Giguere in the form of his life, we might just come pretty close.

Why did Graboski not have shot in the shootout especially given Jets had last shot. I would have put him ahead of Francon, Phaneuf, Frattin and even Kulmanen.

all this from people suggesting one of the best offensive players on the team be in the shootout?

I didn't see any of the Jets' goals. How were they? Was Scrivens really bad?

Scrivens was fine, Leafs played an absolute horrid 2nd period and the Jets got some bounces.  Although I wouldn't fault Scrivens on any of the goals as a goalie you have to stop the puck and despite the lack of support that didn't happen.  However, to answer your question, no he wasn't bad.

Most of it is common freaking sense Bonsixx.  Some of his decisions are just way out there.  I honestly don't remember being this upset with RW when he was here despite all of his flaws.  It is the blatantly obvious bonehead decisions that grate on me, his principle systematic approach to the game is good, he employs a system no doubt, but the guy is a buffoon when it comes to his personnel.

I only saw a couple of snippets of the game. 10 shooters and no Grabovski? Yeash. Although Grabs is kind of mediocre in the shootout (3 for 12 career).

Just looking at some of the stats, I do like how most of the ice-time was allocated though. That's something I've had a problem with Carlyle about in the past. Kulemin leading all forwards was a little odd, but Kadri was right behind him in second place so that's nice. Phaneuf shouldn't be playing 28 minutes a minute, especially when there's no Crosby/Stamkos/Staal/Tavares for him to cover. Gunnarsson was a little high as well but I'm glad he's back to being paired with Phaneuf. The rest of the defence seemed about right, especially with Holzer on the bottom.

I think Gunnarsson was one of the major contributers to the 2nd period melt down, he gave up numerous chances to get the puck out regularly by moving too slow.

They need to put a shock collar around his neck and press the button every time he leaves his net.  He's beyond atrocious at handling the puck and consistently causes problems.

"It was pretty much the dream first shift back. I felt great. My legs felt good, I felt good with the puck, my arm felt strong. No complaints."

Carlyle was impressed with Lupul?s solid return."You can see he stands out (with) his skating and ability on the ice ? he separates himself," Carlyle said.

At least, something to feel good about.

Agreed.I truly do not understand the love affair with him, as well as Holzer. How are either of these guys a better option than Gardiner? Especially with Gunnarsson not being 100% healthy. Move one for a late round pick or a training room jester. Or just do something to get them out of the lineup.

To be fair, I don't think the recent collapse (or insert other word for the bad results recently) can be attributed solely to two players. But it just seems like bad things happen when one of those two are on the ice.

Kulemin was the hardest working forward last night and he played very well.

As for Gunnarsson being back with Phaneuf, I think Gunner performed horrendously last night.

LHF's next day chime in, having had a chance to go through the PVR and the game day thread:

Love love LOVE the Armed Forces tribute, the four female rappelers and that General Lawson was miked. Perfect. And honorary Sgt Tiger :)  Wonderful! thank you MLSE/ACC for doing this!

The game itself? Meh! yikes! talk about a roller coaster..... love of course, that my Joffrey had a perfect first shift back. Kudos and big thanks to pnjunction for stepping in for me and making LupulBear's night :) I laughed my butt off at a couple of the exchanges between posters bit

.You guys are the best.
My Colts game (while they did win) was a disappointment. Because it was a nothing game, they sat all their big guns and best D, meaning I didn't even get to see Scheifele. So coming home to see pnjunction's handiwork was a nicee pick me up. Even though the Leafs lost, I gotta give them props for not giving up after getting down 4-1 and coming back to tie it. And my Joffrey had a hand in that too :)

Nice to see James Wright score his first goal in 26 games last night.

He was buzzing around the net in 25 of em, it was only a matter of time.

He was one of 9 NHL players who scored their first of the year last night.

Abdelkader scored 2 against the Canucks after 1 in his last 28

Drew Stafford scored 2 against Ottawa after 1 in his last 27.

Trevor Daley broke a goal less streak of 12 games against the BlackHawks.

Kyle Clifford scored 2 after a goalless streak of 14 games against San Jose

Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored his first in 16 games against the Avalanche

I'd imagine most nights in the NHL you could put make list similar to this one.
