Gordie Howe dead at 88

And the player of record with the most Gordie Howe hatties?

Our very own fearless leader and President, Brendan Shanahan with 17.  :)

Gordie Howe the hockey player, the gentleman and ambassador of the game.  Not to mention some funny situations & Howe's handling of them:

To the 'rude' fan who kept asking Howe if he could have his autograph...(fan)"Can I have your autograph?"  (Howe) "Say please,"  (fan)"Can I have your autograph?"  (Howe)"Say please."  (fan) "Can I have your autograph?"  (Howe)"Say please. "
(fan)exasperated "Alright, can I please have your G%@#! dam@%! autograph!"

Another time a fan motioned to him to write his autograph big (the fan meant legibly, but obviously wasn't polite enough to emit the word)...  (fan to Howe))"Write big."    (Howe)Nodded.    (fan)with emphasis  "Write big!"    (Howe)Nodded.  Well, when all was said and done, Howe gave him his autograph,  Howe had autographed alright...He had written:  BIG!

Mark Howe recalls when he, his brother Marty, & their father Gordie, played for the Houston Aeros of the now-defunct WHA, when an opponent refused to heave himself off of Mark...

Mark remembers once being pummelled by an older player and seeing his father?s bare hand reach down, place two fingers in the larger player?s nostrils and lift him off the ice.  (Source:  GlobeandMail Sports)

Mr. Hockey was a funny, witted, and humourous man and a fierce competitor on the ice.

Rest In Peace,  Mr. Howe.  Condolences to the family.

Strap on your skates, Gordie. You're going in.
I was just going to quote this!

Sad to see him go but he led a full and amazing life.
