Hurricane Irma

Dear TML associates, just wanted to make you aware of the massive amount of damage being inflicted on the N.E Caribbean at this hour,  I lived through Hurricane Luis back in 95 which was a Cat 5 storm and Irma is making that look like childs play.  Irma is shaking buildings, roofs and cars are being tossed like matchbox's and one huge hotel the Beach Plaza in Marigot is simply gone.  Please join me in prayer for all the people in harms way in St.Barths, St.Martin, Anguilla, the BVI's and USVI, Puerto Rico and Cuba.  Also it looks like it will hit the Florida Keys and then head up central Florida.  A lot of people are suffering and a lot will perish.

Scary stuff, these storms seem to be higher intensity all the time.  Prayers for the families affected.

Having just lived through Harvey, my heart goes out to them.

Sheltering in an interior room using your body as a shield for your family when you hear a tornado outside is quite the ordeal.

Latest news from the French government on St.Martin is that all Government buildings are gone, simply gone.
I am thinking that St.Maarten/St.Martin will need months to clean up to reopen for business.

I lived through 8 hurricanes in my day and would leave at the first sign of one approaching, luckily I live in Canada again.

Turns our Richard Branson is hunkering down on Necker Island in his concrete wine cellar.  It is a very flat island and with his dough he should have split to safety.

My guess is that if he cares about the community he lives in he'd probably be mindful of the optics of using his resources to get out of harm's way and then come back only after the devastation had affected everyone else.

Branson is very involved in the community and is doing a lot of work on saving sharks as well.
Point is he is more valuable to his community being alive than another storm statistic, many of my friends and co-workers are in harms way and I know they are all in concrete surrounded rooms, however the storm surge is unbelievable in this one.
I have friends in the Keys as well and sorry to say they are going to lose their homes.

Again, he probably sees some value in not being seen as someone who flies off in his private jet while friends and employees stay behind to suffer.

Hey WIGWAL! Forgot that you guys were in that area. Hope everyone's doing ok.

I've been glued to the tv since getting back from a camping trip through the northern states and to Boston.  I just can't shake some of the things we're seeing on CNN.  Feeling really fortunate to live in Southern Ontario where I just can't fathom tragic events like this.

We are fine.

I heard the twister and then seconds later our phones lit up with warnings to get to shelter immediately as there was a tornado in our area.

Not something I ever want to live through again.

A few of my wife's family weren't so lucky and suffered some significant flooding.

My wife works at a title one school in the area too, most of the kids live in some form of trailer home and have lost almost everything.

We've been doing what we can to put together donations of anything we aren't using to try and get them and their families back on their feet.

Watching people go out of their way to help one another has been nice.

Glad to hear you're (relatively) okay, WIGWAL family.

The stories of heroism and communities coming together to lift each other up (sometimes literally) remind me of that Mr. Roger's story about his mom.

Hurricane Jose has now been upgraded to category 3 and is following a similar path to Irma with a good chance of passing over the same islands. That's just horrible to even think about.

There is a tweet that you need to watch with the sound up to hear the winds of the hurricane. It's absolutely gobsmacking.

Looks like the world is truly in a state of chaos, weather-wise & all.  As it was mentioned before, experts believe that these hurricanes gather even greater strength than has ever been see as they keep churning.  It is frightening and if global warming/climate change are to be (partially) blamed, God only knows what else is lurking to strike down.

Let's hope that here in Canada, wildfires & flooding considered, the coming winter will not pose a severe threat in the form of a climactic disaster in this country.

Thoughts & prayers to all affected by the hurricanes.
