Winnipeg won last night so they are 5 points back with both teams having 13 games left.  We had our two little blip games.  Need to come out strong and take 3 of 4 left against Winnipeg and out an end to their hopes of finishing at the top of the division.

Yes 100%. Even more so, it's important for them to show a more consistent effort tonight. Really it started against Ottawa where they got away from their game plan and now they haven't been able to rediscover it.

Nylander being on protocol means he hasn't skated in 7 days.  Do you hold him out of the game today given there is a hypothetical scenario where the Leafs don't play again until Monday if their game against Vancouver on Saturday gets postponed?

No big deal to bring him on and play PP specialist at just over 4th line minutes and goose that up if he looks okay. Nylander >>>>>>> Sabourin

Robertson - Nylander - Spezza (have fun line)

The fact that they announced Robertson was off the list but not Nylander probably means he's still not eligible to play.

That's probably not good news for Matthews' chances of playing tonight.

I wonder if its just a matter of testing.  The NHL seems to have tests that are getting done later in the afternoon.  Robertson being put on and taken off in less than 24 hours makes me feel like they put him on it as a precaution while clarifying his risk of exposure and was found to not really be at risk so was lifted.

I figure if Willy is getting cleared it won't be until late afternoon.

Matthews and Willie are out tonight.

Nylander needs one more negative covid test and May rejoin The team tomorrow.

Great. Big game and minus 2 big pieces. The way the team has been playing lately I don't like our chances tonight.

It's sad that I was relieved to hear this wasn't another Covid situation.

I mean its convenient to look back at games after the fact but Matthews really wasn't shooting much in the Calgary game.  He was fumbling passes too.  Key division matchup tonight aside, this might be a good one to sit out.  We probably aren't going to play Vancouver on Saturday at this rate (or will be playing a team that is woefully unfit to play NHL hockey) so it gives at least 4 days off and who knows what happens to that Monday game.  If the league has to push a bunch of Vancouver games back it could also mess up the flow of the end of the season for the Leafs where rest will be even more important for guys.

I wonder if the Leafs are figuring their game against Vancouver on Saturday (and maybe even the Monday one) will be cancelled and this is a good opportunity to give him a bunch of days off.
