Saint Nik said:I just took a look at some other team's nominees. It included Mike Smith, Tomas Fleischmann, Johnny Boychuk, Clayton Stoner, Curtis Sanford and Dan Girardi.
The ones that stood out for me as being particularly interesting were Pacioretty, Jagr and Matt Cooke.
Erndog said:Obviously Pac and Fleishmann had some severe injuries/health issues but were their careers ever called into question? I don't think Pac's was... I seem to remember hearing some scuttlebutt that Fleish may have been done.

I don't think so but I don't know if the award should be "Who had the most severe injury the year before" and, you know, teams have to nominate someone.

Well IIRC, Jagr played for less millions this year than last year, no?

Because Lupul's career was definitely hanging by a thread for a time. I believe Lupes and his father even talked about how he's probably unlikely to ever play again.
Erndog said:What does salary have to do with it?
Jagr chose to leave. Completely on his own terms. He could have played in the NHL if he wanted too.
Would Radulov be a contender next season?

I think he's trying to make a joke at Jagr's expense.

The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey. The winner is selected by a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association after each team nominates one player in competition. It is often awarded to a player who has come back from career- or even life-threatening illness or injury.
I think Lupul would be head and shoulders above most of the nominess.

Well, yeah, but that last sentence there is a statement on how the award has evolved. The first sentence is the actual language of the award. Much in the same way that coach of the year has essentially become "Coach whose team did a lot better than the media thought before the year" and MVP has become "Best player on a team that made the playoffs" I don't think that what the award has become necessarily reflects what it should be.

Fair enough. I'm just test for missing the opportunity to say that being technically right is the best kind of right.

You mean technically correct, I'm sure.
