We approve of this nomination  :)

Is this trophy given out for regular season achievement or do the playoffs count?  Imagine Crosby leads the Pens to a cup -- I'll bet he'd get serious consideration.  If it is regular season only, he may not have enough time to show he's fully back and has made a sizeable enough contribution to this season.

The only trophies that take the playoffs into consideration are the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe. The voting for all the rest happens during the few days between the end of the season and the beginning of the playoffs.

What does salary have to do with it?

Jagr chose to leave.  Completely on his own terms. He could have played in the NHL if he wanted too.

Would Radulov be a contender next season?

I think he's trying to make a joke at Jagr's expense.

My bads folks!

Yes, I was implying that Jagr's hardship of playing for a few million less than he was last year meant he had to stop burning $100 bills to start the fire in his fireplace. And we all know that $50 bills just don't burn as good as $100's. It was indeed a hardship.

Why he was nominated is beyond me.

Not many players can make it back after 3+ years in the minors.

Well, just on the face of it, he did take less money and move halfway across the world for essentially no other reason than to compete against the best players in the world, and has had a pretty good season despite being 40 years old.

I think that shows a pretty impressive level of dedication to the game and perseverance. Granted it may not be enough to make us lose our minds the way an athlete in his 20's not giving up on life to couch surf and eat cheetos because of a bad injury does but it's not nothing.

Well I thought the Masterton Trophy purpose was for overcoming something fairly significant - which ties into the "perserverance". I still don't know what Jagr "overcame". Granted he's 40 years old (didn't think he was that old - I thought late 30s) but other than perhaps having the cujones to come back compared to some of the other nominees....Jagr also started with a pretty significant skill set too.
I really don't care anyway. Perhaps each team has to nominate someone so why not Jagr.

That's exactly what it is - each team has to name their nominee, and, well, there's no one in Philly who really fits the typical criteria.

But again, that's your reading of the award's purpose. If it was just about bouncing back from injury they could say so.

Again, someone can show perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication without an injury.
