Kaberle to Montreal

Man it's going to be strange seeing him play against the leafs in that uniform.

You think its strange now...

Wait until Feb 11, when Kaberle is at the ACC in a Montreal jersey while Sundin's banner gets raised.

Thanks for the heads up.  Will have to add another hour and a half on the TiVo to make up for the game starting 90 minutes late.  Think they'll do a Kaberle tribute before the Sundin tribute?

Two assists already in his first game with Montreal. Not bad for Tomas.

Spacek had 2 in his first game for Carolina as well. So, 1 game in, it's worked out for both teams - well, outside of the fact that Carolina lost last night.

Usually the first game a player plays with a new team there's that "excitement bounce" where he plays well. We'll see how he is in 5 games.

I'm not expecting him to be a consistent 50 point defenseman going forward for the next 2 years, but I think the "Kaberle is done" talk was a little premature.  He didn't score in Boston where it seemed like not such a great fit.  Carolina as a whole has sucked, and it seems like he wasn't in the best of shape post-Cup celebration so that might have factored into his play.  While Jacques Martin isn't exactly an offensive force, the Canadiens have speed, and Kaberle's quick passes and ability to carry the puck up the ice fit in well with that.  I still think he has a few more 40+ point seasons in him.

If there was a team other than the Leafs that Kaberle would have fit in, my choice would have been Montreal, not Boston.  The Canadiens play more of Kaberle's style, or perhaps one can say that Boston's didn't suit him.

I'm happy for Tomas.  So far, so very good a start with a brand new team.
