I like them because I find them easier to understand than most stats things thrown out there.  But basically you want your graph to be as high as possible for each of those metrics and the creator estimates the point at which a D should be considered top 2/4/6 etc based on those metrics.  I find them very clean and easy to refer to if you quickly want to get some sense of 1 or 2 players.

So, am I reading it right in that it's saying that there's a higher probability that Gardiner is a top pairing defeseman?

The probabilities are just looking at a couple specific metrics, I wouldn't take them too authoritatively.  Gardiner rates out much better in suppressing shots against than Yandle, but the % probabilities are just projecting for the specific stats they mention and where they are likely to land.  Or that's how i understand it.
