Me one minute ago: "Hmm, I wonder when the next Leafs game is?"

*checks schedule*

"Oh."

Anyway here's what the 17-16-1 Avalanche are looking like these days:

Landeskog-MacKinnon-Duchene
Martinsen-Soderberg-Comeau
Tanguay-Mitchell-Iginla
McLeod-Grigorenko-Skille

Beauchemin-Johnson
Holden-Barrie
Guenin-Redmond

Varlamov

Not a bad looking roster on paper.

I dunno, this is a team that used to have 3 of Duchene, MacKinnon, Stastny, and O'Reilly down the middle and the other on a wing. MacKinnon-Soderberg-Johnny freakin' Mitchell is a pretty far cry from that.

Sure, but there's some legit firepower there up front.  Barrrie and NiceRoad are having some strong offensive years, and they've got goaltending.

Maybe I'm just used to looking at the Leaf roster...they all look pretty good after ours.

Not to mention a 67-year-old Beauchemin anchoring the blue line.

There was a point in time where having Tanguay and Iginla on the 3rd line would have been considered incredible depth/an embarrassment of riches.

It's not an awful lineup, but it's one that seems distinctly middle of the pack to me.

Even comparing them to the Leafs though for me I don't really see an advantage when comparing their middle-6 forwards to ours. They do have a heck of a top line though for sure. Their D seems to give off the same vibe, it's a huge drop-off from their top-3 to their bottom-3 guys.

So sure, not too shabby, but I don't think it's a big surprise that they're not in the playoff picture right now. Although as I say that I just noticed that they're also 8-2 in their last 10 games and on a 5-game winning streak.

I think with Spaling out, Babcock will line up Kadri's against MacKinnon's to neutralize them, and try to give our bottom 6 a chance to steam roll theirs.

I'm going to pull a Potvin here, this has disaster written all over it.

You know what after they beat LA handily I'm starting to think any game is potentially winnable (although I hope not).

Well...any game is potentially winnable.

Yes, but you know what I actually mean by that.

True, but the middle of the pack consists of 26 teams, give or take.

Yeah, though, in this case, maybe a little more middle, a little less pack?
