Leafs @ Habs - Oct. 29th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

Couple defensive blunders cost us but thought they played a great road game and I thought were the better team. Still a work in progress but last 2 games definitely an improvement as far as team defence. They haven't given up the chances leaving Andersen out to dry like they did for the first week or so. If Babcock can get them to play as a team defensively as they did for the most part last season the wins will come. They create chances with their speed and definite upgrade in talent. Nylander again the best Leaf tonight and as I have said he has been their best player all year.

Ben Smith out for the 4 on 3, do we not have any better options?

Not really. A huge part of defending a 4 on 3 is winning the face-off and Bozak(who is not a good penalty killer) is the only other C on the team who was winning draws tonight.

Disappointing result, but encouraging game.

If the habs didn't have Weber and Price, they'd be in the lottery.

Thank you. I have some Hab fans and even before this year I've been telling them that. Look at their team and honestly I know things can change but the Leafs future definitely looks brighter. If you take Price and swapped him to the Leafs for any of the bunch  of goalies we've had over the last couple years don't think there would be much difference in points. But everyone including the media makes them out like their the Habs of the 70's. Even last year after the first 9 games and the Habs were undefeated albeit Price was like the 1st or 2nd star in like 3/4 of them. Then Price went down with the injury and we all know what happened after that.

I know Babcock likes rolling his lines but right now it feels like the Leafs have one consistently dangerous line and then the Bozak line that's entirely dependent on Marner to generate chances. I think, ideally, I'd like to see something like this tried for a while:

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Komarov-Kadri-Marner
JVR-Bozak-Brown
Martin-Smith-Griffith

I think you have to give them a little more credit than that. They played a really effective game tonight. Sure, a lot of it is structured around Price but I thought Galchenyuk, Radulov, Petry, Plekanec....all looked good tonight.

Price made a ton of saves but he wasn't left overly exposed. Most of the night it would be the Leafs gaining entry, taking a low percentage shot, Price steering it away and the Habs clearing the zone. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I understand they lost this evening. I honest wish that they would throw a little inference, while in front of the net. Bump Price, or something. FLR did it you know a hi stick to the face. Just interfear with him FFS

Overall the game was entertaining but the Price was unfortently right and will help the Habs win the cup if he can keep up this kind of play. In some ways I felt the loss was more like a victory as Andersen finally showed up and Nylander is proving he will be a top player in this league for a long time. Great effort by the entire team.

I know Babcock loves Hyman on that line but honestly I don't think he has the skill to play with the other two. The chances from that line is always Nylander and Matthews... Hyman is just... there. I think someone like JVR would thrive with those two.

Also, hopefully Soshnikov can get back soon and add something to this lineup. Him and Leipsic are the two I can see stepping in and improving the forward lines.

Yes, great team effort.  A fast game, too.  Those Habs are no slouches.  A little bit of a different Canadiens team this season, more aggressive upfront, defence is decent, and that Shea Weber is fitting in nicely.

If not for goaltenders  Carey Price (Canadiens) and Frederik Andersen (Leafs), this game would have had a higher score.  Kudos to both.

I suspect that's a problem with most line combos we might come up with. There are 3 players on the team with skills we beyond the rest. We've seen Bozak and even JvR turn great Marner passes into nothing. Kadri's clicked with Matthews and Nylander on the PP, but I'd bet as they spend more time together we'll see more misses. In the end, I'm sure there's more good than bad -- even with, say, Hyman on that Matthews-Nylander line.

Still, per Nik's post, I'd like the lines mixed up a bit, ideally before they all fall into a slump, since the limits of the line-up are becoming obvious.

Whether you like Bozak or not he has proven he can score point whom ever he plays with. Last year he scored pretty much the same points as he did with Kessel.
