I don't know if this is good or bad for the Leafs, but I always liked MacLean after he trolled the Habs with the "player 61" incident

I thought it was weird that the Leafs were rumoured to be looking for a veteran assistant coach and then ended up with Malhotra. This makes a little more sense. Guess that confirms Hakstol is out?

Instead of AJ, Sheldon?s usual assistant, they got him AJ?s dad

Ah, video coach replacing Andrew Brewer who was canned this summer.

That?d be Sam Kim and Jordan Bean

Those guys aren't listed as assistant coaches though, Brewer was so I assume MacLean is replacing his old role.

MacLean's role as an assistant coach will likely be a lot larger than Brewer's role as an assistant coach though. Brewer was really more of a glorified video coach. I could be wrong but I don't believe he ever took part in any on-ice instructions during practice or training camps. MacLean almost certainly will.

There are some funny connections here to controversial coaching figures in Leafs history: MacLean was a long-time assistant to Mike Babcock, who brought MacLean with him from Anaheim to Detroit, where the two won a Cup together in 2008. He rejoined Anaheim?s staff after his exit from Ottawa ? serving as an assistant to one Randy Carlyle.

MacLean was also a part of the opposition?s coaching staff a few weeks ago in the playoffs, having joined John Tortorella?s bench as an assistant in Columbus a month into the season.

Ah, we've hired the guy who helped nerf our offense
