Game Notes

TOR
?Andersen (9-2-3, 2.62 GAA, .916 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Zach Hyman skated on a regular line at practice on Tuesday. It seems like he's ready to make his season debut but we'll have to wait for confirmation tomorrow
?The powerplay looked slightly different at practice on Tuesday: Tavares moved back to the net front position while Johnsson moved to the slot

NYI
?Varlamov (5-2-1, 2.37 GAA, .924 Sv%) will likely start for the Islanders
?The Islanders had a 10-game winning streak snapped last week. That was on an overtime loss to the Penguins, and they followed that up by beating the Panthers. That means they're 11-0-1 in their last 12 games and haven't lost in regulation since October 11th
?Barry Trotz's team continues to defy expectations. They're 30th in the league in CF%, but 1st in Sv% and GA/GP
?Komarov, who missed the past 9 games due to illness/neck soreness, and Ladd, who hasn't played this season yet due to an ACL injury, were both deemed available to play this game but it's unclear if either will be inserted into the line-up yet

Injuries

?Zach Hyman - Knee - Probable Wednesday
?Mitch Marner - Ankle - Injured Reserve
Code:

?Casey Cizikas - Leg - Probable Wednesday
?Leo Komarov - Illness - Probable Wednesday
?Andrew Ladd - Knee - Probable Wednesday
?Matt Martin - Leg - Injured Reserve
?Tom Kuhnhackl - Leg - Injured Reserve

Sounds like a bit of a PDO bender.

There's a method to their success:
Pre-Trotz vs Post-Trotz

Combined with the Mitch Korn school of goaltending, they have good sync between goaltender and defense. Lots of easy saves.

Of course, sometimes this happens:

So the last remaining piece of the top line (my choice for top line anyways) finally returns from injury tonight only to see the playmaker of that line sidelined from injury. Hyman, Tavares and now Marner have all been absent at some point this season because of injuries.

Man alive we need that entire line playing again!!!

I guess nobody's laughing at the Islanders anymore.  It'd be nice if Tavares could shut them up tonight.

Notice how their Goaltending was stellar last year with Lerner and now again this year. Lou took our Goalie coach with him.  Interesting the results they are getting.

The Islanders are a bit more miragey this year so far. Still keeping shot quality down. Getting some nice shoot percentage luck (especially during their streak obviously).

When was the last time we won 10 in a row?  Last century?

When was the last time a team that won 10 in a row also won the Cup?
i.e. does it really matter? Because the Sabres also won 10 in a row and missed the cut completely.

The one thing Lou did here and does well with any team he runs is find good, no GREAT goaltending. We should have kept him in Toronto just for that one attribute.

Keeping any GM for one good attribute makes zero sense.

Well unless all the available GM's have zero good attributes.  Then it would make sense.

I hear potatoes make pretty decent GMs.

Like Zee said, PDO is second in the league.  They're due for a drop-off.

The Leafs are due for a killer game.

Where did you get the idea that I think it's some kind of necessity?  It's just a nice thing to have happen.

McFate do you see that happening?

He might.  I'm kind of with Frank, they are past due to cork somebody just when we least expect it.
