Game Notes

TOR
?Hutchinson (0-1-0, 4.57 GAA, .857 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Woll did make the trip with the Leafs and skated Saturday afternoon, so there's a chance he could make his 4th start of the season if the Leafs clear him for duty
?No Marner, who will miss his 2nd straight game after colliding with Muzzin at practice on Friday

WPG
?Hellebuyck (8-6-4, 2.68 GAA, .916 Sv%) will likely start for the Jets
?The Jets sit 6th in a very tight Central division race: 2 points seperate the teams between 2nd and 6th place
?Winnipeg's two big veterans have been struggling so far this season: before their most recent game Wheeler had 0 goals and 7 assists in 17 games while Scheifele had just 2 goals and 8 points in his first 16 games. In their last game on Friday night though Wheeler had 3 assists and Scheifele had 3 goals plus an assist

Injuries

?Ilya Mikheyev - Thumb - Injured Reserve
?Petr Mrazek - Groin - Injured Reserve
?Mitch Marner - Undisclosed - Out
?Joseph Woll - Undisclosed - Questionable

Leafs probably just need to take the beating tonight and move on.  Wonder why they wouldn't put Liljegren in as he is at least rested.

No idea why he's sitting out period. Unless they are showcasing someone to trade the kid should have stayed in the lineup.

It may be time to try Holl on the bottom pairing with Dermott and move Sandin up with Muzzin.

And yeah, unless they are working on a showcase where is Liljegren?

Oh good Hutchinson is back

Yeaaa! Send in the clowns

For the life of me I have no idea how Dubas hasn't upgraded from Hutchinson.

He did. This summer. Remember?

Hutchinson is 4th down on the depth chart.
I mean technically he's 3rd on the depth chart when the season began, nobody expected Woll to step up. That said, what NHL teams have great #3 goalies?

Sounds like Dermott sits for Liljegren.  The wrong defenseman is sitting this game out.  Holl is a problem or at least Holl on the second pairing is a problem

At this point in the season, it?s fine.
They know Liljegren and are committed to him.

For Holl, scratching him further degrades trade value. And if we are still winning with him putting up 18-22min a night, then trade value goes up. On the off chance he re-gains form, then the Leafs are even better off.

Perhaps I'm naive, but do GMs, with teams of professional scouts, really get fooled by that?

Have you seen how defensemen are evaluated and paid across the league?

Tall? Check
Right shot? Check
Top-4 min? Check
PK? Check
Blocks shots? Check
This is basically GM catnip

Yeah I mean NHL GMs have proven time and time (and time and time and time) again that they care less about how RHD actually perform in top-4/PK minutes than that they actually play those minutes.

Holl is miscast. That's his issue.. he overacheived, thx to Muzz and now he's getting exposed in the top 4.
For a guy getting paid 2 mill, he's been fine. I see him as a bottom pairing guy that can kill penalties.
It's going to be interesting when Mrazek and Mikheyev get back.

Dad! Also, that Holl-Liljegren swap

Agreed, would like to see Muzzin/Liljegren for a bit. But moving forwards we've got Rielly, Brodie and Muzzin with Sandin, Liljegren and Dermott/Holl. Trade rumours always come up when the team lacks injuries because its fun to talk about it with a full lineup. When one or two of these guys go down it's a different story.
