Game Notes

TOR
?Andersen (20-8-4, 2.66 GAA, .915 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?The Leafs come into Winnipeg on an 8-game point streak (7-0-1)
?Rookie Mason Marchment was called up by the Leafs yesterday. It's unclear if he'll be making his NHL debut or taking the game in from the press box

MIN
?Hellebuyck (18-11-3, 2.60 GAA, .922 Sv%) will likely start for the Jets
?Hellebuyck has been Winnipeg's MVP so far this season. He's 3rd in the league in wins and 9th in save percentage (5th if you bump the min. GP to 20)
?Laine has 14 goals and 24 assists in 38 games this season. While only scoring at a 30-goal pace seems low for Laine he's on pace to smash his previous career high in assists by over 20
?Nothing new on the Dustin Byfuglien situation. Winnipeg's GM spoke about the issue recently and more or less said it was up to Buff to decide if he wants to play again

Injuries

?Trevor Moore - Concussion - Injured Reserve
?Andreas Johnsson - Leg - Injured Reserve
?Jake Muzzin - Foot - Injured Reserve
?Ilya Mikheyev - Wrist - Injured Reserve
Code:

?Nathan Beaulieu - Lower Body - Questionable Thursday
?Andrew Copp - Upper Body - Injured Reserve
?Dmitry Kulikov - Upper Body - Injured Reserve
?Mark Letestu - Virus - Injured Reserve
?Bryan Little - Vertigo - Injured Reserve
?Dustin Byfuglien - Ankle - Injured Reserve/Suspension

It is nice to have a game against the Jets without no one forcing the Matthews x Laine who is better debate. (We all know that Matthews >>> Laine)

Go Leafs go!!!

Laine's having a very good season by golly.  I wonder if he's better than 34?  Neither of them are truly elite, but both have room to improve.

Matthews is on pace for 54 goals and 96 points. What's his ceiling to become elite?  65 goals and 120 points?

50 goals in 50 games would be a start.

Can you imagine a player in this day and age doing that? Lol. I think the last time it happened was 1992, Brett Hull.

Yeah, I had to look it up.

There are three guys who "unofficially" did it since then. The NHL only counts it if they score 50 goals by their team's 50th game of the season so:
- Mogilny's 50-in-his-46th doesn't count because it was the Sabres' 53rd game of the 92-93 season
- that same season, Super Mario did 50-in-his-48th (Pens' 82nd) and then did a 50-in-his-50th in the 95-96 season but he'd missed 9 games during that campaign
- Cam Neely ripped it up (when healthy) in Boston's 93-94 season...50-in-his-44th but it was the team's 66th.

I was trying to figure out a way to find out who has been the closest to doing it since then but so far, no luck.

EDIT: looks like OV came close(ish) in 2012-13-14: http://www.nhl.com/ice/m_news.htm?id=695748

The Jets are a fun combo of maybe the best first line in the league and maybe the least impressive defense in the league.

Today's younger fans would lose their minds (and rightfully so) if a player managed 50 in 50. Its quite a rare feat and much harder to do now with the better defensive systems and better overall goaltending

Easy.  Win a damn trophy other than the one that Raycroft managed to win.  8) 8) 8) ??? ??? :( :) :P

Mentioning Matthews and Raycroft in the same context, how dare you!

It confused me before but I guess if I was getting semi-regularly scratched for Frederik Gauthier I'd consider asking the team to see if anyone else wants me too.

A lot of people ripped on Jeff for putting Bracco 5th on this list.
