Leafs @ Jets - Oct. 4th, 7:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

Patrick, Patrick...

"We played the right way for the majority of the game, and we were rewarded for it,? Marleau said after his two-goal, five-shot night

And congratulations on your official two-goal debut as a Leaf!  Way to go, #12!!

So back in the Kessel days, when the Leafs would win a game like this, they were lucky.  Now they are talented.  I understand there is a difference.  Basically, they still need to clean up their work in the defensive zone.

I know you are going through withdrawal from Griffith but don't make Hyman your new obsession.

A) I had all but promised it this off season
B) It was legitimately good forechecking by Hyman to keep a dump in viable, freeing it up for Matthews to make a play.

I'll just leave this here...

Matthews was held back offensively last year partially because of how often he played with Zach Hyman, who was either snake-bitten or seriously lacks in finishing talent, depending whom you ask. Matthews set up Hyman for more inner-slot scoring chances than any other two players combined for last season, on which Hyman cashed in just four times on 56 chances at even strength.

That 7.14 shooting percentage would be rough from that area anyway, where the average shot beats goalies 22.6 per cent of the time, but add in pre-shot movement and you?re looking at an expected shooting percentage around 30 per cent for an average player.

That essentially means the impact of Hyman?s poor shooting last season was about 13 fewer goals for while Matthews was on the ice, and likely several more primary assists.

I don't know about that. The Leafs held a pretty good edge in shot attempts until the 3rd period when score effects likely took over. And even then the possession rates were basically even at the end of the game, which doesn't usually happen with a score like this. From what I watched their penalty kill definitely wasn't the greatest and was bailed out by Andersen a lot, but at 5-on-5 they seemed fine defensively. Admittedly, I was only able to watch the 1st period.

Geeze, Marleau couldn't have sprung for a couple of plane tickets?

His dad looks like the type that wouldn't allow it.  ;D

I dunno. Driving adds a lot of extra hours away from tending to his farm. I'm assuming he has a farm.

So by extension, CtB = Mike Weaver

Mike might need some work on his Canadian geography; that's a 30-hour drive.

Maybe a 30-hour bike ride. It's only 485 miles or so. 8 hours, 10 with stops.

I'm assuming bullfrog was thinking the game was in Toronto, not Winnipeg.

Where do you suppose the nearest airport to Aneroid even is?

Regina most likely.  (3 hr drive from Aneroid)  Only 5 more hours (driving time) to Winterpeg.  Flight would be 1 hr, plus check in time before, having to hail a cab after etc.  Probably would only save a few hours.

Yeah, I looked at a map and Aneroid is practically a straight line west from Winnipeg. A long drive, sure, but not a tricky one.

Remember the game day threads where it would be a bunch of lamenting about how the Leafs were going to get some top end talent, and not a discussion on how Patrick Marleau's parents got to the game?

I mean, game day threads have always had room for nonsense.
