Man, this Leaf's season is pretty dispiriting. Hopefully Spaling can come back where he left off and fetch a 4th or something. That would be exciting!  :-\

So tonight's riveting story lines:

1. How many shots against until the Leafs get their first?
2. Will Reimer stop the first shot?
3. Will Lupul get injured?
4. Will Ron Wilson consider removing a few pins from his Jonathan Bernier doll?

It's impressive to see how Florida has really turned things around.  They are a small market team as well.  The Leafs should be like the Yankees.  There is no excuse for this level of medicrity.  It's deplorable.

Sickbeast??..they are working on the problem. I think that is part of the Shanap___n.

I'm getting more optimistic that this is indeed the beginning of the Leafs doing it right. It would be even
more assuring if we were hovering near reach of a playoff spot, and they still moved players for picks. As it is
now Leaf Nation would explode if they tried to make moves for today.

It's ironic that it has apparently taken a total management rookie to step in and finally start an actual plan
that will return us to a real good competitive status.

Suck it Burke.

I hope the Shanaplan works.  I have my doubts that they will do it right.  We will see if it works.  Knowing the Leafs they will be better next season and then they will trade away young assets just so they can make the playoffs.  They will probably sign Stamkos as well and then they won't have room under the cap to do anything.

I realize this is pessimistic, it's just this is all I have ever known as a Leafs fan.  I was not alive during the glory days.

If only the Leafs would get on the rebuild train like the Pathers did a few years ago.

Is that Florida coach in the running for the Jack Adams? That forward group looks awful thin outside of the top line.

Also, nice spot by TSN on Rick Rypien.

Any stats to back up this wild claim?

But like two days ago you said: "Things are finally starting to look better in Leaf Land.  I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel."  Two days later and you have your doubts they will do it right?  Did something change?

They activated Spaling.

Not a bad reason really.

I can still see the light but I have my doubts that they will follow through with the plan until the end.  Like I said, I really think they will trade away young assets next season so they can make the playoffs.  That's just my gut feeling.  I don't think they will follow through all the way.  I hope I am wrong but that is what the Leafs brain trust has done time and time again pretty much throughout my life as a Leafs fan.

I hate to be that guy, but pretty surprised to see so many empty seats here. I read that Florida was having some pretty good attendance numbers lately with how well they've played, and Toronto is usually a pretty good draw there.

You want stats?  Ferguson traded away young assets for either rentals or veterans.  Burke traded away young assets for semi useless players like Kessel.  Cliff Fletcher traded away young assets.  So that's 3 for 3 of the last 3 general managers of the Leafs.  I'm sure it goes back further than that as well, that's just based on recent memory.

So my stats are that over the past 10 years 3 out of 3 general managers have wasted our young talent so that we could make a run at the playoffs.  Then we would suck just badly enough to not make the playoffs and we would get a crappy draft pick.  For years.  And you need me to explain this to you?  Have you not been following the team?  Are you here in body only?  Please enlighten us.

The only decent brain child that the Leafs have had since I have been watching was Pat Quinn.  And oh yes, they fired him.  Look what happened afterward.

I mean, none of those guys are Shanahan. And none of them publicly stated their intention to have a potentially long and painful rebuild. Just seems weird that you're expecting them to do a complete 180 on their plan based on nothing.
