It's the type of jump prospects of Nylander's calibre make on a regular basis. It's not as big a jump as you think.

It has to now if we're going to win! ???
Now, we only need 7 for the win!

I'd agree with you if I thought the team expected next season to be much more successful than this one, but I really don't. I think they'll want Nylander to learn on the job, and they won't be particularly concerned if there's a few hiccups along the way - and it's much easier to learn on the job when you're actually playing in a role that's close to the one the team hopes you're going to be able to fill long-term.

They might want Nylander to learn on the job, he can do that at 3C or maybe 2W if something else happens. 2C is a fairly big role to start at. Anywho, I'll say this, if they don't give him a cup of coffee this year to see what he can do, I don't think they bank on it in the offseason.

So in the history of the Norris, no d-man has won it while missing the playoffs. If the Sens miss the playoffs, should Karlsson win it?

Anyways, isn't this all moot, as Auston Matthews is going to be the second line centre next year, behind Stamkos?

I honestly don't believe that a handful of games this season will have any real influence on their plans for next season. In fact, my guess is they already have a pretty solid framework in place for how they expect to handle prospects like Nylander based on a few scenarios that involve where they draft and what happens with other transactions that they'll put in place regardless of how many games Nylander plays in the NHL this season.

Well, since it's largely become the best offensive defenceman award . . . sure, why not?

And, in other news, Santa Claus is for real!
