Leafs sign Jay McClement (2 years, 1.5 AAV)

That's pretty reasonable.  And now the Leafs have two strong defensive centers who win their faceoffs and play on the PK.

Wow, my friend (a Rangers fan) just texted me saying "Loafs sign mcclement, 2 yrs/3.75 mil cap hit, LOL", I rushed on here to rage post and instead I find this, nice surprise.

Great deal.  8)

In the last 4 years he's ranked 2nd, 1st, 7th and 3rd among all forwards in SH TOI per game .

Probably got the cap hit confused with the Kuba contract in tampa.

Seems to be quite durable too, hasn't played less than 80 games since 2005-06.

The scouting reports on McClement from the time he was a junior until 2011 often refer to him as a potential Selke winner.  (Keeping in mind that there is a world of difference between a "potential" and "actual" winner.)

Colorado signed John Mitchell at $1.1 million per year to replace him.  Not sure I understand why Colorado thinks the $400 K saving is worth it.

Glad to see a solid bottom six signing at a reasonable cap hit.

This is the kind of signing that makes a hell of a lot of sense for this club.  Anything that bolsters the defensive play of the forwards is a good thing.

If McClement replaces Armstrong on the roster, the Leafs are saving $500,000 (taking into account the Armstrong buyout) per year and have a better player.

The price is right but JVR + McClement put this team into the playoffs. Baby steps so far, but Burke still needs to take a giant leap.

Not replacing Armstrong though, they are totally different players.  Looks to be replacing Connoly, Lombardi or Steckel in some capacity.
