Leafs sign Jay McClement (2 years, 1.5 AAV)

I don't know how I feel about this pick up... To be honest this free agent pool is very thin, and considering some of the contracts given out I am glad Burke and Co haven't done anything to handcuff us like they did last year (signing Connelly and trading for Lombardi).  Managements goal should be to clear out under performing veteran contracts this year and acquire a veteran, starting goalie.

One of the few UFA's I was interested in the Leafs signing.

He was used in a very defensive role in Colorado, only starting about 35% of his shifts in the offensive zone.  Hope he helps.

I'm just curious as to why you wanted this guy?

I ask because I know you're into the more modern metrics of measuring performance.

I'm not that into it, I have just been trying to use it more often and get a better grasp of it.

McClement I had just known about for years and knew he was thought of as a good PK guy, and was solid in St. Louis.  He just seems like a safe signing to me.

who was that guy we traded to calgary that was suppose to be the same and was a poor player for the leafs?

It was Jamal Mayers, I hope Jay will be better then him.  Come to think about it the last UFA we got from Colorado was Jeff Finger who sucked too.  I hope he plays much better then either of those two.

Finger was Fletch and he was just nuts at that point. Was Mayers fletch too? Anyway it was a poor signing and he never really was much of a player. Fringe fourth liner really.

Yay more no-name nobodies expected to have career years.

You don't really understand hockey, do you?

I really don't see what's wrong with signing a guy who can help improve our pk numbers which, iirc, were among league worst.
