Leafs trade Colborne

The Leafs have traded Joe Colborne to the Calgary Flames for a 4th-round draft pick.

Colborne, 23, was originally acquired by Toronto on February 18, 2011 in a trade that sent Tomas Kaberle to Boston.

In 16 career games with the Maple Leafs, Colborne had one goal and five assists.

Strange..I was thinking about him being possibly traded to Calgary while I was watching the game.Allthough I was hoping Liles would be going with him.

The Leafs have room for both Orr and McLaren over Colborne? Honestly, I get that Joe hasn't exactly lit things up, but that just seems like an absolutely asinine decision.

If the choices are putting him on waivers or keeping him on the 4th line does it really matter?

So Colborne was traded, while Liles still stays.  Shall we be surprised?  In a way yes, in a way no.  If Colborne had been placed on waivers, he might have been claimed while the Leafs would have gotten nothing in return.

The trade is contingent on "certain conditions" that need to be met -- the Leafs can upgrade for the Flames' third round pick instead.

Also, Colborne is going home -- he's a Calgarian.  Hopefully, the Flames can put him to good use.

I say this without having watched much of the pre-season.  Going into the pre season he had a job in the bottom 6 pencilled in.  When we lost Clarkson for 10 games, there was potentially another roster spot open.  He had a 600 k or something ridiculous like that cap hit. It was his to lose.  He lost it.

I watched most of the preseason and I think your comment is spot on. I thought he looked terrible, especially last night's game.

To get 4th rounder - provided some conditions are met that 4th round pick can be upgraded to 3rd round pick - is not that bad for a guy who has not really impressed.

What concernes me though is that the Leafs do not have any depth at C. Should any of Bozak/Kadri/Bolland/McCLemment go down with an injury the next in line is I guess McKegg.

Another concern is the ability to win face-offs. Colborne was not exactelly spectacular in that department but definatelly better than Kadri and to some extent Bolland. Bozak is pretty good on face-offs but he is not Yanick Perreault either. The Leafs will suck monumentally on face-offs.

I'd still have rather gone with him on the 4th line if it meant that or nothing, and based on his body of work not just this pre-season.  But oh well.

I'm not real sad to see him go. He was given all the chances in the world and, I never once saw any of them he's going to be good moves in a while. now I know why Boston moved him. I Am  glad we Kept Liles, we will need him.
