I'll say!  That's a blockbuster!  Barrie is a top-4 RHD though, so that helps that.

I love Kadri, but Tyson Barrie is very, very good. He's perfect for this team. Only concern is that he's an UFA after this season and would need a big extension. Initial reaction is that this is a good trade for the Leafs.

Jesus, Dreger.... wow.

Very sad to see Kadri go. My favourite player on the Leafs. Pretty nice that the Avs are retaining 50% of Barrie's cap hit. Despite Kadri being on a sweetheart of a deal, I think the Leafs come out on top here. We've got our top line RHD now.

Wow. This a big one. Kerfoot basically replaces what Kadri provided last season, and the Leafs get Barrie at $2.75M for the season! Great move Dubas!

I had a feeling for the last few days that Kadri was going to be traded. He's really the only valuable asset the Leafs had that would realistically bring back a defenseman of Barrie's calibre.

Rielly, Barrie, and Muzzin is a hell of a top 3.

I didn't realize Kerfoot was a centre, that's a huge bonus. He's a RFA, Evolving-Wild pegs him at about $3mil.

Sort of mixed feelings here. I like Kadri, brain lapses aside, and am a little worried about this team's depth down the middle. I also don't love having to extend both Muzzin and potentially Barrie next year.

But...you've got to crack eggs to make omelettes I guess. Rielly-Barrie-Muzzin is a solid top three and once Dermott is back I think the team will be pretty well set.

Kerfoot was 56% on face-offs last season. Back to back 40-point seasons. Was just over 50% in possession last season. The drop from Kadri to him probably isn't that massive.

Maybe. But I worry we may be judging Kadri too much on a down year.

I think you have said it perfectly.

We had a glaring need on the blueline particularly after the Zaitsev trade and the only way to address it was to give up a forward of sufficient value to ensure a decent defenceman in return.

I like this deal a lot more than the Zaitsev trade.

Kadri?s a big loss but he?ll get a bigger role in Colorado.

Retaining on Barrie?s cap hit was beautiful. Kerfoot for Ros?n is amazing.

This is very interesting.

Probably. But he also likely wasn't going to get back into the 60-point range here.
