Leivo...

Whats up with this guy. It seems like all he is here for is to sit and watch. They protect him, they keep him up with the big team yet no game time, I am ready to see him in a few games. Any thoughts?.

Any time the Leafs are playing a less physical/smaller team, throw Leivo in there and let Martin have a game off. I do like Martin for what he is, but you gotta get Leivo in there.

Tonight against Detroit for example...

That'd be the optimal solution that's available to them right now, I think... but I was listening to the Mirtle/Siegel podcast, and they point out that Babcock's a coach who quickly forms an opinion of what a player is and doesn't revise it, even when he's proven wrong (e.g. when Panik works well in Chicago's top-6).

Neither of the likely solutions to the "Leivo situation" -- trade him for a low pick or let him sit more than 42 games and walk -- are any good, so I'm hoping a smart person in the front office makes the sensible asset-management moves (picks and prospects for expiring UFAs) and forces the NHL-ready guys in the org into the lineup.

Leivo=Corrado.  And will be missed about as much once he's gone, I predict.

In terms of being scratched maybe, but Leivo has proven he is an NHL caliber player, Corrado never has and likely never will.

Levio's situation with the Leafs will be cleared up this season one way or another.  If they don't play him enough games he'll become a UFA, if they play him enough games it means he's actually playing well and producing.

Of course, he's actually played well and produced already. So, odds are, they're going to let a good, productive RFA walk as a UFA -- at the same time they either let JvR, Bozak, and Komarov walk or re-sign one or more of them to inefficient contracts.

I still think some of us are discounting the likelihood of injuries becoming an issue this year.  Last year was an anomaly.  It is far more likely that this year we will trend toward the mean, unfortunately.  I think Leivo will get into the lineup.

Too much depth. They aren't going to get rid of Martin unfortunately. Our depth will save us when making a playoff run.

Lots of words about Leivo and his situation, especially with a tantalizing window of opportunity cracking slightly open.

Apparently Josh has being working hard, has a great attitude. He's just the 13th forward right now on a club with no injuries.

Love how he changes his angle, props to the Borg on his assist.

I think Leivo, Kapanen, and Moore are all here for when JVR and or Bozak get traded.  They're also good insurance against injuries.  Or they could be used as trade pieces.  Leivo is showing that he's a pretty good player.  Give him and Kapanen some more time and they could do a decent job filling in for JVR and Bozak.

For whatever reason he doesn't get much love around here but JVR's scoring is going to be hard to replace.  What he does well, he's pretty elite at.

I've never really seen a post here, including the one you just quoted, that advocated trading JVR because JVR isn't good.
