I think Grabs is still a bit limp personally.

So do I. I think he pushed the envelope to come back and they're just trying to be careful. It was a knee injury.

When he's 100%, he's currently their 3rd or 4th best forward and one of two (Connolly - depends on the evening) if not their best center.

I think the lineup last night was Wilson's attempt to get as much size & grit into the lineup as he reasonably could. That might explain Aulie who is grittier than Franson, Rosehill who is grittier than Dupuis and keeping big Joe Colborne around. Grabbo isn't big but he's tough, gritty enough and plays well against the Bruins.

#Leafs lines are different: Lupul-Bozak-Kessel, MacArthur-Connolly-Frattin Kulemin-Grabovski-CRABB, COLBORNE-Steckel-Dupuis ..

I like this actually.  It will be better when Armstrong comes back and the 3rd line is Kulemin - Grabovski - Armstrong.  A 3rd line that's really good defensively, but has more chance for offense than most 3rd lines in the league.  When Lombardi comes back eventually, he'll probably have Frattin's spot.

Colborne I'm assuming is simply keeping Brown's spot warm.

I like those lines. Any NHL experience is good for Colborne, though I suspect they'll end up sending him down rather than keep him on the 4th line.

Probably when Armstrong is back.

Gustavsson gets another shot at big, bad Bruins
Wilson said defenseman Cody Franson, who has been a healthy scratch for much of the season, will ?likely? get back in the lineup in Boston Saturday.

Reimer has been cleared to play but will backup.

No Marlies transactions on their site to give us any clues on players being sent down.

If Aulie is replaced by Franson, he'll remain as a 7th to fill Komisarek's spot on the roster.

Scrivens is the one likely on his way to the Marlies where they may have to make an interesting decision on which AHLer they'll keep because Owuya's (.930 save%) has been outplaying Rynnas (.887 save%)

EDIT:
Mirtle confirms Scrivens is being sent down

This is the right move, I think.  Apart from it being prudent to give Reimer a bit more rest, it likely wouldn't be good for his confidence to be welcomed back with a start against a team that routinely beats the heck out of the Leafs.

I really like what Owuya has done for the Marlies, he simply has been outstanding.  However, I think he would be best sent back to the ECHL where he can be Reading's number one.  That route certainly has worked with both Reimer and Scrivens.  The promise that Owuya has shown shouldn't be wasted watching Scrivens start the bulk of games with the Marlies.

What I'd like to know is what's happening with Rynnas?  I know he was injured at the beginning of the year, but why has he performed so poorly this year?  We are now seeing Burke's wisdom when he went and signed more goalies.  We have an abundance of goalie depth now and should be able to at the least parlay one into a forward or some other asset that we may need.

I've only seen him a couple of times this year in parts of games. I'm not sure. He wasn't terrible last season. He got off to a good start and then got hurt as I recall. He hasn't seemed quite the same since.

Rynnas was .921 in the AHL over half a season before he got hurt in 2010-11. .911 at the end last season - he struggled after his injury. He's struggling at .879 this season.

Here's an older 2010 article on him:
http://thegoalieguild.com/2010/05/school-of-block-scouting-jussi-rynnas/

Before writing him off, I'd see how he goes for the balance of this season. He's a RFA this summer so they can easily walk away if he can't get his game back.

I see the UFA signings of prospect goalies a little like free draft picks. They're not all going to turn out. #1 picks are roughly a 50/50 adventure. To their credit, none have been complete busts yet and they're looking to add another this summer.

The win% of the 10-8-1 record (with three losses to Boston) these backups provided the Leafs would have them about 17th in win% in the league against teams with starters. I'm sure we'd all love it to be better but it's respectable and certainly not a disgraceful result.

Here's Jonas Siegel's update from yesterday:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=381857

In Siegel's TSN interview,
http://www2.tsn.ca/window/podcastcentre/#All_TSN_Podcasts&id=1
they bantered about the possibility Wilson may start Reimer - on the basis that Wilson would not commit "definitively" to Gustavsson. I'm not absolutely sure if that's the media trying to read something that isn't there or not.

Ron's often refused to name his starter.

Ron did cite the Sabres using Miller as a backup when he returned as an example for justifying that he seems about to do the same thing with Reimer.

I think it's quite probable Gus will start "all signs point to it" but fyi, Jonus & TSN were exploring the possibility Wilson may surprise with Reimer.

Good for Jonas to sniff the potential of that coming last night.

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but . . .  ;D

My guess is he'll be back in net for the 2nd half of the back to back with Boston. It's a little less than 10 days at that point, but, I just have a feeling he'll be good to go by then.

Wilson said he made the decision to start Reimer tonight "about three days ago." #Leafs

Well, I never thought that Gus starting if Reimer was healthy made a ton of sense so I'm glad to see Reimer get the start.
