We are now suggesting the GM, who to my knowledge has never coached a game in his life, come down and coach the team?

Not only does it make zero practical sense, could you possibly imagine the firestorm that would ensure about Burke and how he's so arrogant and how dysfunctional he and the Leafs are that he has to take over as coach?

Have him go into the room and yell for 10 minutes before every game, but he's not going to become the coach.

Again, not sure my post was read. I said one of the assistants take over as interim head coach with Burke on the bench. It was only an idea, yes an outlandish one, it's not like something like this hasn't been done before in the past on other teams. Anything to spark these guys for the last 18 games.

Yes, I want to see playoff hockey, I have no interest in watching this team spiral further and tank so we get a better draft pick that has no guarantee of being anything. Even if that said pick turns out to be a pretty good player, that said player is prabably a few years away from making the team anyways. This young group needs to get some confidence back and some experience in the playoffs. They didn't work hard all year long (for the most part) just to fall flat in their faces the last 30 games.

Carlyle's first practice lines:

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
MacArthur-Grabovski-Frattin
Connolly-Steckel-Kulemin
Brown-Lombardi-Crabb

Gunnarsson-Phaneuf
Liles-Komisarek
Gardiner-Schenn

So the basic changes he has made is Kulemin who has been struggling this season replacing him with Frattin.  Moved Lombardi who has really struggled as a Leaf to the 4th line and moved the often benched Komisarek off the bench in replacement of Franson.  I hope he gives Franson a chance as I think he is better than Komi but we will see, things are a mess right now and nothing is definite.

With a change in approach to team defense, we may just see Schenn and Komi turn their games around.  They were sure wearing the goat horns a lot under Wilson's system this year.  They both have what we're lacking - size and toughness - and hopefully Carlyle can find a way to utilize that without exposing their weaknesses.

Give them too much room and they'll look like a fool.  Plan should be to demolish the opposition, give the puck to a closely available puck-moving partner or forward.  You don't want Schenn or Komisarek in an wide-open game.

Jay Rosehill placed on re-entry waivers, per Darren Dreger. Not exactly surprising, as Carlyle seems to like his goons (Parros).

If he clears and gets recalled, the Leafs will only have 1 non-injury recall left for the season.

I like Frattin on the 2nd line - Kulie just hasn't been able to shake his funk.

Both he and Lombardi need to improve their play to move up.

I heard Carlyle likes a good solid, checking 3rd line to match against the opponent's top line - he's got his work cut out identifying one now. I'm a little surprised that he hasn't got Armstrong pencilled in there, but maybe he's still hurting a little? Who knows - like Komisarek drawing in, Carlyle's probably going to have to rotate a few guys in to let him evaluate what he's got before deciding on who plays where just yet.

On Rosehill - haven't the Habs been trying to goon it up a bit in the last while? Maybe I'm mistaken on that...interesting move anyway.

The last call-up will be between Kadri, Colborne and Holzer I would imagine - depending on need.

Our good solid checking line to match up against the opposition has been Kulemin, grabbo, Mac.  It is a good 2-way line.

I think LM's dialed in to Carlyle's thinking.  And if he can get Komi and Schenn to settle down and play a very conservative type of game, it should yield benefits.  But yes, they will need to rely on positional play and not making any dumb pinches, because speed will burn them.

Yes, but I think he wants to free them up to play offense - and that would be the best use of them in the long run. It remains to be seen if he can find another line to be a "shutdown" one.

One other musing - I always thought that Wilson's attempts to "activate the d-men" into the offense backfired badly on the Leafs defense - Phaneuf, Schenn and Komisarek especially. Too many bad pinches. I know we have generated a ton of scoring from the d-men too, but I think it didn't work in the long run, especially when our goaltending has been less than spectaular.

Anyway, I expect that to be reigned in a little more going forward - we shall see.

With Brown hurt, would it be a good idea to call up Rosehill or Orr to ensure Boston dosn?t have their way with the Leafs?  not sure if that is a good idea with the minimum four call up rule.  (i don?t understand that rule)

Rosehill was called up yesterday. FYI

Hey thanks for that.

Just to get technical here, he was placed on re-entry waivers yesterday. He can't actually be officially recalled until he clears.

Which will be tomorrow at noon, according to Scott MacArthur.

Connolly is one of 4 skaters in 4th line jerseys at practice today, so for it would appear that 2 of Brown, Rosehill, Connolly, Crabb,  and Lombardi will be healthy scratches.

Armstrong is currently practicing on the 3rd line with Steckel & Kulemin. Maybe Carlyle is looking for some more beef/grit on the third line.

I think they'll need as much beef as they can find for the Bruins. Boston lost two players, not sure for how long, but I think both have eye injuries. I'm not sure how that will effect them, but it can't help their line up.

If Carlyle can figure out a way to keep Kessel away from Chara, they might have a chance.

Boston has lost 2 straight, that's not good news for the Leafs because they'll be in a foul mood on Tuesday.

And if they were on a winning streak, it'd be bad news because they are rolling.

Rask is hurt and right now Thomas is human.. Not sure of numbers but since the change of calendar I don't think his stats are too great (for his standards) for 2012 so far
