Murray, do like Samsonov did tonight.

PREDICTED ? Matthews will get a hat trick ... depend on it.

I think we need to start asking the really tough questions.  Is Matthews just coming back down to Earth and instead of being a 40-60 goal scorer he is just a guy who will get 1-4 glorious scoring chances a game and finish the season with 20 goals.

11.2 shooting percentage this year with 19 goals.
His career shooting percentage including this year is 15.9%. That would have him at 27 goals.
His career shooting percentage not including last year was 16.4%.  That would have him at 28 goals.
His previous career worst shooting percentage was 14.34% in his rookie season.  That would have him at 24 goals.

Auston Matthews leads the NHL in expected goals at 5 on 5 with 13.7 (has actually scored 11) but is tied for 21st in actual 5 on 5 goals.

Hopefully Tavares can build off his great game last night.  Rielly got two points last night so hopefully that gets him jumpstarted too.

With respect, I don't think that's a tough question. I think it's a silly one. He's established himself as one of the best goal-scorers in history already. Ovechkin, of 800+ goals, had two back-to-back seasons of 32 and 38 goals, right in his prime.

Oh I'm just being purely tongue in cheek.  Matthews isn't having one of his typical special season years but he's really not getting puck luck so far.

Would love to see leafs taking the long view and sitting Giordano tonight. #loadmanagement

Definitely. He's over 6 points off his shooting percentage from last year, and almost 5 points off his average. It's an anomaly I'd bet won't have legs.

Hey, as long as he gets more luck in the playoffs, that's a tradeoff I'd take all day.

Here's a question for the gang here that I was thinking about the other night.

Let's say the regular season ends (or near enough to it) with leafs pretty much on the same pace they're on now (24-9-7), and they play tampa the first round.

If it was within your control- Regarding Dubas: Do you offer an extension:

a) prior to the trade deadline/end of reg season
b) require a playoff round win
c) require multiple round wins
d) cup or he's out

Definitely depends on playoff performance.

why are they NOT playing Timmins. I think he has certainly earned a spot and some of the "older" defencemen abd Rielly look like they could use some rest. They are terrible defensively again!

Interesting! I guess I'm going to be the bleeding heart that would pick A. The series against the Habs was an embarrassment, but I don't think that a razor thin loss against tampa was an abject failure, and the regular season performance has been of an upper echelon team with some good, creative moves against a stagnant cap that couldn't have been predicted after signing the big 4.

That said, it's a results oriented business, and money is being "lost" without more playoff dates, so I understand the other opinions. It's just the randomness aspect of a single round that's troubling.

I can't help but assume that if the worst occurs, another organization is going to quickly pick up dubas with the experience of his rookie tenure, and have a really good asset - and the leafs will not necessarily move forward with addition by subtraction.
