Mayor Rob Ford

Rob Ford is dressing up as a crack smoking jailbird this year.

I love this retweet by David Alter...
For those not in Toronto, our mayoral version of Breaking Bad just reached the point where Hank is taking a dump with the Walt Whitman book

My Favourite mayor of all time. Not for any of his politicking but for the sheer entertainment value. I love it.

So true. It's too bad Chris Farley has passed, as he'd be my first choice (and the Leafs chief too) to play the mayor in the CBC bio, 'The Big Smoke: The Rise & Fall of Mayor Ford'

I haven't listed to AM640 for years, but is this all still just left-wing conspiracy nonsense to them?

No. I don't think there's conspiracy stuff going on. Innocent until proven guilty of course but it looks like there's some evidence of some pretty shaddy dealings on the mayor's part. I think right or wrong, this probably is the last nail in the coffin for him - as it should be.

Well, what reason does he have to resign? He was elected mayor. That's his job until it's not. It should be pretty clear that "doing the right thing" is not high on his list of priorities.

You're 100% right - it just seems like it's delaying the inevitable, not to mention the distraction it will be at City Hall...

The man wants to go down in one final blaze of hilarity

Well, it's not like it will have any noticeable impact on his performance . . .

"I cannot defend myself...but I have no reason to resign."

Sweet baby Jesus...

When he made that statement, he looked exactly like a 6 year old kid who was in trouble for stealing from the cookie jar.  Chin down, looking at his toes and/or deer in the headlights.

I just don't understand what he's fighting to keep together now.  The world knows what he has done, he can't deny it anymore, so what's he got to stand on?  Why stay? Only embarrasses himself and has to face accusations every single day.  Anyone who believed him when he denied the drug habits must feel very betrayed today.

Even in a representative democracy there is something to be said for having credibility and public support between elections. If people don't have faith in their elected officials to make responsible decisions, and I'm not sure it's unfair for that faith to be shaken by the use of crack cocaine, then what mandate can a politician really have?

True, he doesn't have any reason he has to resign but I think the public revelation of a pretty serious drug problem is a reason to resign.

It's amazing watching this from the other side of the country. Our Vancouver mayor is batbleep crazy for bike lanes and taking away vehicle lanes and wanting to have chickens in back yards and wheatfields in front.

I think I'd take Rob Ford...

Isn't this the guy Don Cherry was pumping at election time? Has he said anything at all since the video first surfaced way back when??

Yeah, no. Vancouver's mayor is just the other side of the political spectrum crazy. Neither make for good mayors for anywhere.

Yep.  I know people who can consistently shrug this off because they have stated they don't care about drug use just about how he does the job.  Not sure how people like Cherry (who I assume is very anti-drug) are going to be able to reconcile this now that denial is no longer an option.

Is it possible to initiate a vote of non-confidence in the municipal system?
