Mikheyev to miss at least 3 months

Looks like Mikheyev is done for the season. Tendons, artery severed. Damn hope he makes a full recovery. Seemed like such a nothing play.

The way he went off the ice, I am not remotely surprised.  How he held his wrist he had multiple tendons cut.

Pretty strong argument for players wearing kevlar sleeves moving forward.  Cal Clutterbuck had a similar injury just a few days ago.

Alec Martinez of LA had it happen to him almost exactly a month ago too.

Watched the replay again today. I don't get it, those skates must be as sharp as ginsu knives. Wtf

That?s such a tough loss for the leafs and a tough break for Ilya.  He was such a nice surprise and was playing some good hockey.

Oh man. That really sucks. I hope he makes a full recovery; that's a scary injury. He was playing so well lately, too.

Hopefully Johnsson gets back soon.

I don't want to go down this road in a thread about his injury too much but this might be  good for the Leafs in the long term.  A better chance to sign him to an extension coming off an injury rather than a 50 point rookie season.

It absolutely sucks for Mikheyev and it certainly hurts the Leafs as he was a big part of the team.

Re-sign him. Let him recover with security and assurance.

This is a stupid monkey paw answer to how do we keep Engvall up.

Unbelievable.  How could such a thing have happened so severely?  Reminds me of the Clint Malarchuk incident, far more bloody and even scarier (jugular vein).

Just at a time when the Leafs were getting comfortable with Mikheyev at the helm (of his line)...

Damn it, I was afraid of this.  Mikheyev has become a pretty productive member of the top-9.

Assuming Johnsson isn't back in the near term:

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Engvall-Tavares-Nylander
Petan?-Kerfoot-Kapanen
Timashov-Gauthier-Spezza

I would guess Brooks is getting the first chance but I have to think that Bracco is going to get a look at some point, maybe even Korshkov. Leafs haven't had a full healthy line up yet.

Man what a scary injury. There really needs to be more protection. Can you even truly fully heal after that? Hope he recovers swiftly.

That is terribly unfortunate but he's lucky it didn't happen in some venue where expert medical attention was not instantly available.

I'm sorry for him, and sorry that it's derailed a very nice season.

Yes to kevlar protectors there.  And while we're at it, yes to full cages for everyone, no exceptions.  People will damn well get used to it.

Feel bad for the kid. He was really finding his groove lately. IF he can get back for the playoffs maybe he can have a moment and be this generations Borschevsky
