Minor Signings

Ruslan Fedotenko to MIN on a two way deal.

Edit: Oh, he wasn't in the NHL last year

He did play for the Iowa Wild last year though, wow.

Shultz signs a 1 yr $3.9m deal.

http://www.tsn.ca/schultz-oilers-agree-on-one-year-contract-1.331551

The six-foot-two native of Kelowna, B.C., has 66 goals and 91 assists 203 games into his NHL career.
Offence isn't a problem for Schultz but rather the defensive end of the ice, where he still needs to develop.

Is Shultz's game similar to Gardiner's?

I don't mean to direct this at you Frank because I know you just C&P'd from the source but how could they print those goal/assist numbers without immediately knowing that's wrong?

I think if a defenseman who puts up 25 goals and 60+ points per year gets $3.9m on a one-year deal, there's no way the Leafs ever find a taker for Phaneuf.  :-X

I actually just noticed that...it didn't even register with me when I pasted it.  I just remember his numbers were similar to Gardiner's.

Grigorenko gets a 1yr deal from the Avs.

According to generalfanager.com, it's $675,000.

Cheap reclamation project, if you can refer to a 21 yr old that way.  Maybe this is one of those examples of what happens when you subject a kid to a loser atmosphere too soon.

I don't know if it had anything to do with Buffalo's loser atmosphere, but yeah it's painfully obviously that the the Sabres rushed him and that he absolutely shouldn't have been in the NHL as an 18 & 19 year old. They really messed up his development.

I've got a soft-spot for him as he was the guy I wanted that draft, hope he's able to turn things around.

Craig Smith, who I didn't know existed before he was in discussion for arbitration, signs a $4.25 X 5yr deal before the hearing.

The @PredsNHL have signed Craig Smith to a five-year, $21.25 million contract. Details here: http://preds.co/1KhdyO6

25 years old and had 52 points in 13-14, and 44 points in 14-15.  Makes Kesler deal look a little pricey.

This should be beneficial to the Leaf when it comes to re-signing Kadri long-term. Smith's a year older but has actually scored at a better rate than Kadri over the past 2 seasons and is a better possession player.
